Regional Science and Environmental Economics (RSEE, ISSN: 3042-4658) [1] is a new international, peer-reviewed open access journal in the academic fields of regional economics and environmental economics. Regional science focuses on the basic theory, basic process and policy system of regional economic development. Environmental economics addresses the tensions between economic growth and environmental sustainability, focusing on strategies for environmental conservation amidst economic growth. The ongoing discourse and development within these fields underscore the necessity for this new journal. In general, research papers related to regional science and environmental economics and cross-disciplinary research are very welcome in this journal.

1. Why This New Journal?

There are already a number of high-quality field journals that cover regional science and environmental economics. Both areas are evolving, continually presenting new phenomena that merit detailed investigation. New research results need to be published in a timely manner, but authors frequently express concerns regarding prolonged publication cycles, inefficiencies in publication processes, and suboptimal management. There is a strong desire within the academic community for reduced publication timelines, enhanced efficiency from editorial teams, and improved service from publishers. If a new journal can better meet the requirements of authors and promote the dissemination and sharing of academic information, it will be favored by authors and readers. RSEE aims to function as such an innovative and valued resource.
RSEE follows a scientific and effective route and draws on MDPI’s decades of experience: this journal builds on the ideas and review processes of influential mainstream academic journals, adopts strict peer review methods, and minimizes the time required for peer review while still ensuring the quality of papers. To ensure that the research results of the included papers are available to the entire academic community, RSEE is strictly open access, meaning that no reader and no institution will ever be charged to access research published in RSEE. In sum, open access publishing is much less costly for researchers as they are typically both contributing authors and readers of scientific journals.

2. What and How RSEE Will Publish?

RSEE is dedicated to publishing original research that explores the economic, social, and political facets of urban and regional transformations, alongside studies in resource and environmental economics. The journal welcomes significant contributions, whether theoretical or empirical, and embraces both positive and normative analyses. To be considered for publication in Regional Science and Environmental Economics, papers must present carefully identified empirical findings, insightful theoretical analyses, or innovative methodologies that are novel and of broad interest to their readership. RSEE is a pluralist forum, which showcases diverse perspectives and analytical techniques.
RSEE particularly welcomes contributions that explore the nexus between regional and environmental economics and other economic disciplines such as development economics, labor economics, public economics, quantitative economics, comparative economics, health economics, and international economics. The journal is keen to promote interdisciplinary research from diverse teams, provided that the primary focus remains on economic inquiries. We recommend that all authors submit a statement of novelty and relevance with their papers that demonstrates how their findings offer original insights compared to the existing literature, contribute to the advancement of knowledge in environmental management, and hold significance for a wide and varied audience.
RSEE is committed to enhancing research dialogue within its scholarly community. On behalf of the Editorial Board of RSEE, I invite you to submit your work to RSEE and share your academic research findings with a broad and interested audience.
