Inter-Critical Gout, Not Hyperuricemia or Asymptomatic Urate Crystal Deposition, Is Associated with Systemic Inflammation
Abstract
1. Introduction
2. Methods
2.1. Study Design: Cross-Sectional Study
- Normal SU: SU < 360 µmol/L;
- High SU alone: SU ≥ 360 µmol/L without ultrasound evidence of MSU crystal deposition;
- High SU plus asymptomatic MSU crystal deposition: SU ≥ 360 µmol/L, with deposition of MSU crystals ascertained by ultrasonography, but without gout symptoms;
- Inter-critical gout: All gout cases self-reported ≥1 gout flare in the previous 12 months and had a serum urate (SU) level ≥ 360 µmol/L.
