Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript entitled “The growth curve of microbial cultures: a model for a visionary reappraisal” is an extension of the conference paper entitled “ describes an extension of a growth model for microorganisms including decay due to loss of oldest cells generations. The communication is quite interesting, and properly written. I consider this communication relevant in the bioprocessing area. I recommend accepting the manuscript.

I thank for your favourable comments

Reviewer 2 Report

The paper brings new insights into the field of  predictive microbiology and especially to the knowledge of the microbial consortium growth (though not from physiological or cell point of view). The mathematical model is well constructed and robust, managing to describe the decay phase, generally understood as a steady phase by other previous studies. Just for curiosity, were there any experimental set-ups to demonstrate the model?

Author Response

I thank you for your favourable comments. To meet your request I added in the revised edition of the manuscript the references to my previous works that report  the experimental evidences supporting the model.
