Antibiotics in Dairy Production: Where Is the Problem?
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Overall, this is a good review paper that summarizes and draws attention to other works surrounding the presence of antimicrobial residues in milk and dairy products. Its publication would be a positive addition to the literature for a variety of audiences, but mostly for non-experts.
There are several typographical or grammatical errors, a few of which listed below:
line 36 - "rise by 11.5% in 2030" - Ii believe this should read rise 11.5 % by 2030
line 86 - "intermammary" should be "intramammary"
line 101 - "goat" should be "goats"
line 104 - "he veterinarian" should be "the veterinarian"
line 124 - "since 1999 to 2019" should be "from 1999 to 2019"

line 238 - "higher that 80%" should be "higher than 80%"

line 275-276 - there is inconsistency with the spelling of oxytetracycline / oxitetracycline in Table 1 and the text (also line 341, 348, 351)
line 392 - "subcjet" should be "subject"

Comments
Table 1. This table is not mentioned in the text. Also Doxycycline instead of Doxyicline
In fact, it was mentioned on line 74. Nevertheless, we have added a new sentence to explain its content.
L73. This should be Table 2, content of table 1 is different.
As we have answered in the previous question, a new sentence explains the content of Table 1.
L86-87: needs improvement in language, it is not clear.
We have modified the sentences between lines 86-88 trying to make them better understood. This modification has meant that we have to exchange references 18 and 19. This change has also been extended to the entire text.
L150-159: It would be better to use the word countries and not states, especially when talk about European countries.
We have continued to retain the word "state", precisely in the case of Europeans, where no one doubts that they are such. In the case of other continents (and in tables 2 and 3) we have used the word "territory", since the meaning of the word "state" is not so well defined in those cases, and because it is not for us to decide whether those territories are countries, nations, entities within which there are different nations, etc.
Perhaps, this can be taken as a political question that is beyond the scientific character of the manuscript. However, it is a sensitive issue for some of the authors who are legally affiliated with "Spain" even though we do not recognize it as our country.
L172: variable
Corrected
L179: double “in”
Corrected
L269-271: needs improvement in language, it is not clear
We have modified the sentence trying to make it better understood
L289: research instead of researches
Corrected
L296: new section is number 4, but there is no 3 earlier
We have corrected the number of this section and the following ones.
L532: environment
Corrected
L542: figure in English
Corrected
Reviewer 3 Report
this paper reviews and discuss the use of antibiotics in dairy production and potential issues that arises due to these residues and how they affect environmental and human health. The article is written well and easy to read. The sub-topics were discussed thoroughly however the conclusion does not answer to the last sub-topic which is " where is the problem?" The authors concluded that its mainly in developing countires with laxing regulation but then what else? Hopefully authors could add alittle bit more on what other suggested steps to be taken to curb this issue.
Author Response
Thank you very much for your kind comments and suggestion to improve the manuscript.
We have included new ideas in the “Conclusions” section trying to respond to this suggestion.
We believe that the section now reflects fairly well what can be concluded from the current state of the problem and also outlines some steps that can be taken to curb this problem.
