Engineering Human–Machine Teams for Trusted Collaboration
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Although "Mutual trust between human and machine" is an interesting title, it is also a term that could easily cause confusion. As the authors cited, trust is traditionally a "psychological state", which will not be discovered in a machine, nor should it be used to describe a machine's behavior.
On the other hand, it is possible to design a machine with certain human behavior detection and adaptive reaction mechanism. If the authors would like to use the term "trust" when refer to such mechanism, or more profound mechanisms, I would suggest an unambiguous and scientific description written in a separate paragraph, preferably in 3.2.1. This paragraph should summarize the meaning of trust from a machine perspective, compared to the traditional definition of trust from a human perspective.
The overall clarity of the paper could be improved. The three proposed future research opportunities could be explained more specifically.
