Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

First, the paper needs to be extensively copy edited. The structure needs to be reorganized and be concise.

Second, I am concerned about the contribution of the paper in terms of its novelty. I understand this is a new database that will facilitate research on Luxembourg actively managed funds, however, I think writing a data manual will be sufficient.

Author Response

Dear Reviewer,

We would like to thank you for your time to read and review our manuscript. The revised manuscript has been enhanced by including the licence agreement. The official and complete text of the licence agreement that researchers need to sign in order to access the database is presented in the Appendix B of the revised manuscript. Additionally, the rest of the manuscript has been slightly edited and all changes have been tracked (using the corresponding tool of Microsoft Word).

Regarding your suggestion about reorganising the structure of the paper, we would like to mention that this manuscript had been submitted in the paper category “Data Descriptor” of the Journal “Data”. For such papers, the section titles are pre-defined by the Journal’s guidelines. Thus, the order and the titles of the sections must be: 1. Summary, 2. Data Description, 3. Methods and 4. User Notes. Using the above-mentioned sections, our manuscript describes in a comprehensive way the database content, its creation process and its potential uses.

Regarding your comment about “writing a data manual will be sufficient”, we would like to mention that a “Data Descriptor” paper (as defined in the paragraph above) presents similarities with a dataset manual. As far as we are concerned, a dataset manual focuses mainly on the dataset content. However, a “Data Descriptor” paper includes apart from the database content, the creation process and the potential research uses of an innovative dataset. From this perspective, our manuscript is in line to the objectives of the “Data Descriptor” papers of the Journal “Data”.

Finally, regarding your comment about the novelty of the paper (that is, in fact the novelty of the dataset), this is described in the following points of the revised manuscript:

  • In the section “1. Summary”, lines 90-106
  • In the section “4. User Notes”, lines 332-369.

We would like to thank you once more for reviewing our manuscript.

Reviewer 2 Report

This is an especially worthwhile project. It is likely to be of great use to researchers. It is constructed carefully. This information deserves to be distributed widely. I enthusiastically recommend publication.

Good job on revisions. It will be great if you can further cut short paragraphs, or break them into small paragraphs instead of big ones. Thank you!
