A Study on the Corrosion Behaviour of Laser Textured Pure Aluminium in Saltwater
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
1. Does laser surface texturing increase or decrease the thickness of oxide layer? In your introduction, why the result of Ahuir-Torres is due to the low thickness of the oxidised layer of the laser textured surfaces. While in other references, the laser oxidized layer is thicker than native passive film. Please explain the differences and reasons in detail.
2. What’s the chemical composition of your CP aluminum in line 78? And what is the processing state and heat treatment state of your materials as received?
3. In figure 3, we can obviously determine that the corrosion potential Ecorr of textured sample is higher. But what does the black arrows represent?
The shapes of black curve and red curve are significantly different in every state. Can you explain what caused these differences?
Why Idiff and Ipass are missing from red and black curves respectively?
4. In line 240, you mentioned the intermetallic particle refining. However, the content and distribution of intermetallic particles in the same raw materials should be the same. Why do you think these particle are produced by the laser surface texturing? What effect does this intermediate compound particle have on corrosion?
5. There is a lot of blank space in Figure 4. Please adjust and enlarge the details to see the data distribution in the lower left corner.
6. Please supplement the comparison of pitting or other surface corrosion morphology for the laser textured and non-textured samples. And the microstructure changes before and after laser texturing.

Title: A STUDY ON THE CORROSION BEHAVIOUR OF LASER TEXTURED PURE ALUMINIUM IN SALTWATER
This study deals with the chemical and topographic modification of the corrosion behavior of pure Al due to the laser surface texturing process.
It seems that the metastable pitting decreased after the laser processing owing to the alteration and oxidation of the iron-rich intermetallics. The oxidized layer generated by the laser processing was found to be more stable if compared with the native passive film. Authors have shown that the corrosion resistance of pure Al without laser processing can be reduced and become lower than textured sample corrosion resistance. This study has the potential to be cited.
I recommend that the Editorial office consider this manuscript for publication after minor revision.
Reviewer’s Suggestion
Lines 26-39 It seems that the authors forgot to introduce some references that will cover statements in this part of the Introduction.
Line 78 Chemical composition of Al alloy is missing.
The literature foundation of equations 1 to 6 has to be cited.
