Neuroanatomical Reflections of Childhood Obesity: Volumetric Analysis of the Pituitary Gland and Olfactory Bulb
Abstract
Highlights
- Childhood obesity is known to be associated with various metabolic and neuroendocrine alterations.
- Previous studies have shown that obesity affects brain structures such as the olfactory bulb and pituitary gland in adults, but there is limited research on how obesity influences brain volumes in children.
- This study provides new insights into volumetric changes in the olfactory bulb and pituitary gland in children with obesity.
- The findings suggest that childhood obesity leads not only to metabolic but also to neuroanatomical changes, potentially reflecting neuroplasticity and endocrine adaptations, highlighting the importance of considering both age and body mass index when evaluating these brain regions.
