- had an indication for surgical resection of necrotic bone with subsequent primary closure and preoperative/perioperative administration of IV antibiotic therapy (penicillin G 10 million IU and metronidazole 500 mg); and
- (iii.)
- provided informed written consent for this study.
- (i.)
- presented with osteonecrosis of the jaw due to other medical circumstances (e.g., irradiation);
- (ii.)
- presented with an allergy to penicillin and/or metronidazole;
- (iii.)
- were pregnant or breastfeeding; and
- (iv.)
- were minor or incapacitated to provide informed consent.
