AI, Optimization, and Human Values: Mapping the Intellectual Landscape of Industry 4.0 to 5.0
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsI would like to congratulate the authors on their excellent work in conducting a systematic bibliometric review of the literature concerning the concept of Industry 4.0, as well as how this paradigm, guiding the human-centric fourth technological revolution, is being assimilated by the academic community.
This is a timely and highly relevant topic, especially considering that research aimed at the effective implementation of the Industry 4.0 concept is currently undergoing significant development. The application of the PRISMA 2020 protocol yielded consistent and relevant findings, underscoring the growing importance of integrating technological advancements with rationality, sustainability, and responsibility to promote industrial development that aligns with environmental and social progress.
I have identified several critical issues in the text that require the authors' attention. In this regard, I offer the following recommendations:
- Repetition of a sentence (lines 163 to 170 and 199 to 206);
- Briefly describe and reference Bradford’s Law (line 290);
- Improve the quality of the figures to ensure legibility (Figures 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10);
- Review the numbering of the sections (lines 765, 793, 800, 814, 826, 839, 853, 866, 877, 889, 900, 909, 914, 927, 938, 947, 952, 963, 977, 991, 1005, 1011, 1024, and 1038);
- Review and reorganize the text in the indicated sections (4.1 Understanding Industry 4.0 — line 605; 4.2 Key Technologies in Industry 4.0 — line 694; 3.3 The Emergence of Industry 5.0 — line 900; 3.4 Factors Driving the Shift towards Industry 5.0 — line 793; and 3.5 Key Technologies Enabling the Evolution from Industry 4.0 to 5.0 concerning Artificial Intelligence, Optimization, and Human Values — line 900), organizing them into bullet-pointed subitems, to facilitate the correlation between: (a) the concept of Industry 4.0 and the technologies that constitute its foundations; (b) the emergence of the concept of Industry 5.0 and how it can guide the effective integration of the distributed and collaborative systems of Industry 4.0.
- Verify whether subitems 3.5.1.4.1 Sensor Technology (line 952) and 3.5.1.4.3 Next-Generation Communication Technologies (line 977) are positioned within the section describing optimization technologies. I believe these subitems fit better under hardware technologies rather than software (Artificial Intelligence).
- Review the texts in section 4.2.5 Collaborative Robots (line 740) and section 3.5.1.5.2 Human-Robot Collaboration (line 2024). I believe that, in these sections, it is necessary to differentiate the currently available technology from how this technology should adapt to the human centered approach.

Dear Reviewer,
We would like to express our sincere appreciation for your thorough and insightful review of our manuscript titled " AI, Optimization, and Human Values: Mapping the Intellectual Landscape of Industry 4.0 to 5.0". Your comments and suggestions have been invaluable in helping us enhance the clarity, depth, and overall quality of the paper.
In response to your feedback, we have carefully revised the manuscript to address all the points raised. Below, we provide a summary of revisions and improvements made:
- Repetition of a sentence (lines 163 to 170 and 199 to 206): REPETITIONS REMOVED
- Briefly describe and reference Bradford’s Law (line 290): REPETITIONS REMOVED
- Improve the quality of the figures to ensure legibility (Figures 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10): THE FIGURES WERE IMPROVED
- Review the numbering of the sections (lines 765, 793, 800, 814, 826, 839, 853, 866, 877, 889, 900, 909, 914, 927, 938, 947, 952, 963, 977, 991, 1005, 1011, 1024, and 1038): THE NUMBERING WAS FIXED
- Review and reorganize the text in the indicated sections (4.1 Understanding Industry 4.0 — line 605; 4.2 Key Technologies in Industry 4.0 — line 694; 3.3 The Emergence of Industry 5.0 — line 900; 3.4 Factors Driving the Shift towards Industry 5.0 — line 793; and 3.5 Key Technologies Enabling the Evolution from Industry 4.0 to 5.0 concerning Artificial Intelligence, Optimization, and Human Values — line 900), organizing them into bullet-pointed subitems, to facilitate the correlation between: (a) the concept of Industry 4.0 and the technologies that constitute its foundations; (b) the emergence of the concept of Industry 5.0 and how it can guide the effective integration of the distributed and collaborative systems of Industry 4.0: THE WHOLE TEXT WAS REWRITEN TO AVOID REDUNCANCY AND PARTLY SUMMARIZED IN BULLET ITENS TO EASE THE WRITING FLOW
- Verify whether subitems 3.5.1.4.1 Sensor Technology (line 952) and 3.5.1.4.3 Next-Generation Communication Technologies (line 977) are positioned within the section describing optimization technologies. I believe these subitems fit better under hardware technologies rather than software (Artificial Intelligence): THOSE SUBITEMS WERE REPOSITIONED
- Review the texts in section 4.2.5 Collaborative Robots (line 740) and section 3.5.1.5.2 Human-Robot Collaboration (line 2024). I believe that, in these sections, it is necessary to differentiate the currently available technology from how this technology should adapt to the human centered approach: THE PARAGRAPHS WERE REWRITEN
We hope that the revised manuscript meets your expectations and addresses all concerns adequately. Once again, thank you for your valuable time and contribution to improving the quality of our work.
Sincerely,

Comments and Suggestions for Authors1. The font of the abscissa in Figure 4 is too small, which is not conducive to readers' understanding and reading. Please modify it.
2. Please delete Figure 4 and use quantitative tabular data expression instead.
3. In this paper, the author lists many technical introductions in the fields of industry 4.0 and industry 5.0, but there is little analysis on the interaction between them. Please analyze in detail the relationship between these technologies and their role in future development trends.
4. On the whole, the number of relevant literatures retrieved in this article basically meets the research needs, but there are few links between the reviewed technologies, horizontal and vertical comparisons and in-depth analysis. Lack of in-depth analysis and discussion chapters, lack of multi-dimensional analysis of existing technical research, and then predict and guide the future trend and role.
5. The article covers a wide range of fields, but the final discussion of the article is insufficient, and it does not well summarize the guiding significance and strategic value of existing technologies for future development. Therefore, in-depth analysis is needed to get some concise conclusions.

Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsI would like to congratulate the authors on the excellent work carried out in revising the manuscript. After carefully reviewing the revised version, I verified that the recommendations previously provided have been fully addressed. I believe that the new structure of the manuscript has resulted in a clearer and more objective presentation of the Industry 5.0 concept within the current context, as well as the challenges related to the effective reorientation of Industry 4.0.
I apologize for any inconvenience, but I would like to offer a few additional recommendations for further improvement:
- Please verify whether the data presented in Figure 4 and Table 3 are accurate.
- Academic writing standards recommend that tables, figures, charts, and diagrams should always be referenced in the text before their appearance.
- Consider improving the image quality of Figures 6, 7, 8, and 10.
- Remove the text overlapping currently present in Figure 9.
