Three-Dimensional Kinematics and Kinetics of the Overhead Deep Squat in Healthy Adults: A Descriptive Study
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
The study “Three-Dimensional Kinematics and Kinetics of the Overhead Deep Squat in Healthy Adults: A Descriptive Study” aimed to establish normative data for future studies and may help to detect biomechanical insufficiencies in training or rehab settings. Overall this is a highly interesting approach and may be beneficial in future studies.
There are some aspects however, that need some further evaluation/clarification:
Relatively low sample size – may be regarded as pilot study, however a larger sample size should be considered if the authors wish to establish normative data.
Were the individuals screened for skeletal abnormalities e.g. varus/valgus deformity, hindfoot deformity, pes planus etc.?
Details on injury history?
Otherwise the manuscript is well written and the presentation of results as well as the discussion part are sound.

This is a descriptive study that illustrates the kinematic and kinetic properties of the joints of healthy adults when performing a deep overhead squat.
This analysis is detailed and interesting, in particular, the kinematic and kinetic evaluation of the different phases of the deep squat. The originality of the topic is at an average level, but outcomes allow for supplementation and a more detailed analysis of the FMS test.
This study added a comprehensive three-dimensional (3D) analysis, and control of kinematic and kinetic datasets. The manuscript is clear and well-written. The conclusions are consistent. It is debatable whether the 70 participants constitute a reference group. Please arrange the captions in Figure 1.
