Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

  1. The introduction should be rephrased, including more relevant  work on the fabrication and performance of electrolyte membranes by
  2. The prepared membranes show many good advantages. How about its durability? If it is applied in a real PEMFC, how long time can it survive to have good performance?
  3. I am very interested in the reproducibility of the fabricated membrane. Did the authors repeat the fabrication and the measurement?
  4. Why the authors did not do any measurement of surface characterizations, e.g., SEM, XPS, etc?

Reviewer 2 Report

In this manuscript, SPEEK was employed as a polymer matrix for the preparation of hybrid membranes by incorporating an organo-silica layered material properly functionalized by anchoring high phosphonate (-PO3H) ionic groups (PSLM). The proton transport properties, mechanical properties of the SPEEK-PSLM membranes were investigated. It is found that the presence of the organosilica nanoplatelets remarkably improves the mechanical strength, the water retention capacity at high temperatures, and the proton transport for the PEMFCs applications.

I consider the content of this manuscript will definitely meet the reading interests of the readers of the Applied Sciences journal. Therefore, I suggest giving a minor revision and the authors need to clarify some issues or supply some more data to enrich the content.
