- Outdoor paddock (OP): Cows were individually kept in an outdoor paddock for the last three weeks before their expected calving date until calving day and exposed to natural winter weather conditions (i.e., rain, wind, and cold).
- Early Movement (EM): Cows were individually housed in a maternity pen for the last three weeks before their expected calving date until calving day.
- Late Movement (LM): Cows were individually kept in an outdoor paddock during weeks −3 and −2 and moved to individual indoor maternity pens during the week −1 relative to calving until the day of calving.
