Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

1.      The title should be modified. Since the authors use the fractional-order super-twisting algorithm to design the speed controller, the authors should directly use “fractional-order super-twisting sliding mode control” to replace “non-integer high order sliding mode control” in the title.

2.      The full name of “PID” in the line 23 should be given.

3.      For the acronyms, the first letter capitalization is not necessary. It is recommended to use “induction motor (IM)” rather than “Induction Motor (IM)” in the abstract; to use “direct torque control (DTC)” rather than “Direct Torque Control (DTC)” in the line 36; to use “model predictive torque control (MPTC)” rather than “Model Predictive Torque Control (MPTC)” in the line 43-44; to use “sliding mode control (SMC)” rather than “Sliding Mode Control (SMC)” in the line 48; to use “sliding mode observer (SMO)” rather than “Sliding Mode Observer (SMO)” in the line 78; to use “extended Kalman filter (EKF)” rather than “extended Kalman Filter (EKF)” in the line 94; to use “neural network (NN)” rather than “Neural Network (NN)” in the line 107.

4.      The name to describe the Simulink tool in the MATLAB should be unified. In the line 113, the authors use MATLAB/Simulink in the line 113 but matlab/SIMULINK in the line 117.

5.      The abbreviation of the Gaussian process regression has been given in the line 111. So it is unnecessary to give it again in the line 126.

6.      How do you guarantee the stability of the proposed speed observer in theory?

7.      The sampling period used in the simulation should be given.

8.      The parameters of all tested controllers and observers should be summarized in a table.

9.      The authors should present the expression of the sliding mode speed observer and demonstrate the selected parameters for this observer are optimal.

10.  The authors should demonstrate that the selected parameters for the tested PI and SMC speed controllers are optimal.

11.  The values of the performance indices selected to evaluate the tested controllers should be summarized in a table.

Reviewer 2 Report

As observations we would note that:

1. the writing style of the chapters is different, note line 18, 142, 148, 153, 169, 192, 226, 327;

2. The same can be observed in the sub-chapters, note lines 227, 239, 250, 273;

3. unexplained abbreviations ("PID").

4. I recommend that Figure 1 be brought closer to the reference (reference is on page 2, line 54, Figure on page 3, remaining lines available on page 2 are 28);

5. line 119: for the term "chattering" a synonym would be necessary

6. line 135: "The remaining paper is organized as:" would require a reformulation.

7. line 145: reference to relation 2 must be rewritten "(2, )"

8. equation 2 must be rewritten to fit on the page

9. for equations 1 - 18, additional clarifications of the quantities and symbols used are needed

10. line 177: the reference to equation 28 is unrelated to what is presented and the sequence of equations

11. line 197: the same quantities are passed "where xid and xid are the dth element of vectors (Ii,Vi) and (Ii,Vi)"

12. in table 1 it is necessary to explain the physical sizes for the symbols used

13. Figures 6 and 11 must be repositioned on the page so that the explanations for the three situations are not interspersed

14. line 243: it is larger than the margin of writing on the page, and the units of measurement for Rs and Rr are not visible"Rs 2.3 , and Rr 2.77 ."

15. lines 58 and 60: bibliographic references [35] and [32] must be renumbered in order of citations, (on line 48 the last citation is [11])

16. Reference [34] in the bibliography is not found in the text

Reviewer 3 Report

Dear Authors,
The article submitted for review entitled: A Non-integer High Order Sliding Mode Control of Induction Motor with Machine Learning Based Speed Observer presents an interesting approach to the topic presented.
The article is composed of 7 chapters, the order of which is arranged in a coherent whole. Nevertheless, the submitted material has several shortcomings that should be taken into account in order to improve its attractiveness to the reader:
- The mathematical relationship (3) does not fit on the sheet page.
- The caption of Figure 2 should be set according to the journal's guidelines.
- Captions of markets and tables should not end with periods.
- The graphic form of the table is not in accordance with the guidelines of the magazine.
- I propose to put the hangings of the areas in Figure 6 in a different way so that they are better to understand.
- On line 243 in the text there are black squares - what was that supposed to be?
- Figure captions should be placed on the sheet according to the journal guidelines.
- I encourage the authors to discuss more about the results obtained.
Conclusion:
In order to continue the publication process further, the reviewer would like to encourage the authors to follow the comments/suggestions. A thorough revision of the entire paper is required.
