Green Regeneration and Resource Recovery of Nickel-Plating Waste Solution: A Synergistic Study of Electrodialysis and Advanced Oxidation
Round 1

Comments and Suggestions for Authors- Please add one sentence at the beginning of the abstract introducing chemical nickel plating.
- Last paragraph of page 2 should come before the methods. Please move it to upper places.
- Please provide a table in the introduction summarizing the methods that exist in literature and their key results and achievements along with their drawbacks.
- Please mention if this approach is introduced and used for the first time by you. If not, what is your novelty compared with previous studies?
- Please define the abbreviations only at their first instance and use them elsewhere instead of their complete form.
- Line 174: Chinese national standard methods should be inserted as a citation and its full info should be mentioned in the references section.
- I am suspicious about AI usage for producing texts and discussions. Please check the publisher’s policy in this regard.
- Why is there a reference at the end of line 267? Is it your work’s result or obtained from literature?
- It is better to use similar symbols for ions in all figures. In this regard, please change the color of HPO3(2-) to black in figure 3. Check other figures as well.
- Please provide a table comparing your work’s results with previous studies and show how your presented method modifies the process.
- Some headings are very long. Please select shorter ones.
- I believe the conclusion is written by AI. Please do not itemize the conclusion and write some continuous paragraphs.

Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsIn this work, the authors reported a very novel concept of turning nickel plating waste solution into valuables by employing a combined electrodialysis and advanced oxidation approach. The results were very clearly presented and the manuscript well prepared. I am happy to recommend the acceptance of this work at the journal Water, pending that the below detailed comments are answered properly.
- The authors provided a proper background discussion on the advanced oxidation process, but barely discussed on the electrodialysis. Please include some basic introduction to this process, before introducing the coupling of electrodialysis and advanced oxidation process.
- Line 57, recent works on advanced oxidation process can be referenced in the Introduction to appeal to a broader readership (e.g., doi: 10.1021/acssuschemeng.1c07605).
- It is a commendable practice that the authors included error bars in data reporting (Figures 1, 3, 4, 6, and 7). It would be better if the authors can briefly mention based on how many duplicate experiments/tests the error bars were obtained.
- Experimental details of the EPR tests should be included in the section “2.3. Analytical methods” to allow for better reproducibility of data.
- Line 137, there are two star symbols in the Title of section 2.2.2. There are also numerous star symbols in the Reference section. Kindly double check the writing of these parts.
