Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The paper discusses integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the Madrid Nuevo Norte urban regeneration project, using a localized reporting framework. Some suggestions are here provided:

Abstract: Results are not explicitly detailed. It mentions the validation of the proposed framework through the Madrid Nuevo Norte case study, but it does not provide specific findings or results.

Materials and Methods: While the methodology is clearly described, more details on how qualitative data complements the quantitative indicators could enhance understanding. Provide examples or case-specific information on how qualitative insights (e.g., stakeholder feedback) are collected and integrated into the indicator framework. Some references could support this and can improve the list of references of the work: Tajani, F., Guarini, M. R., Sica, F., Ranieri, R., & Anelli, D. (2022). Multi-criteria analysis and sustainable accounting. defining indices of sustainability under Choquet’s integral. Sustainability14(5), 2782

and

Dobrovolskienė, N., Pozniak, A., & Tvaronavičienė, M. (2021). Assessment of the sustainability of a real estate project using multi-criteria decision making. Sustainability13(8), 4352.

Add a brief explanation or context within the figure descriptions to help readers unfamiliar with the specific indicators.

Results: Provide additional quantitative examples or preliminary results (if available) from the Madrid Nuevo Norte project to make the analysis more robust.

Discussions: Strengthen the connection between the findings from the Madrid Nuevo Norte case study and the theoretical implications discussed. For example, tie specific results (e.g., indicator effectiveness) to broader lessons in urban regeneration or sustainability reporting.

Conclusion: Include a brief section in the conclusion summarizing practical steps that can be taken by cities or planners to replicate the success of the Madrid Nuevo Norte project.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear Authors,

The manuscript titled "Integrating the SDGs into Urban Regeneration: A Madrid Nuevo Norte Case Study Using an Adapted Voluntary Local Review Framework" presents a structured approach for incorporating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into urban regeneration projects, focusing specifically on the Madrid Nuevo Norte initiative. The framework utilizes existing resources and methodologies to facilitate reporting on SDG progress in urban regeneration efforts. The Madrid Nuevo Norte case study provides practical insights and validation for the framework, making it a useful tool for urban planners, policymakers, and researchers. However, the paper requires major revisions before it can be considered for publication.

Comment 1: The text in item "1. Introduction" is too brief and does not sufficiently address the problem that guides and supports the objective of the manuscript. What are the social, economic, and environmental justifications? Numerous references are cited throughout the text; however, few are incorporated into this section.

Comment 2: The paper would benefit from a more detailed explanation of the methodology used in the case study and its alignment with the proposed framework. Throughout the methodological description, I felt that you could have backed by a greater number of references to corroborate and validate the construction of this proposed method. Figure 1 has a low resolution and does not adequately illustrate the stages of research development. I suggest revising it for improved clarity.

Comment 3: While the paper offers a solid overview of the proposed framework, it requires a more detailed analysis and discussion of the key indicators and causal pathways resulting from urban regeneration activities. The presentation of the results is relevant and well-structured; however, the discussions seem overly superficial and underdeveloped.

Comment 4: The graphs have captions that are difficult to read and the information presented is not sufficiently clear. I suggest the authors use software that generates higher-quality graphs to better represent their results.

Comment 5: The overall structure of the paper requires improvement to enhance flow and coherence. Some sections lack clarity and need to be revised for better readability.

Comment 6: The case study conducted on "Madrid Nuevo Norte (MNN)" lacks thorough development. Therefore, I recommend that the authors expand the presentation of the results related to this topic, incorporating a deeper analysis and alignment with this type of research. Additionally, I suggest including a map that locates the study area within Europe, Spain, and its specific region, illustrating the phenomena identified in the research.

Comment 7: The conclusions section of the paper could be enhanced. Currently, it presents a general overview. It would be beneficial to emphasize the main contributions and innovations of the research, as well as to offer suggestions for future research and practical applications. I also note that many parts are poorly developed, with several paragraphs containing short and disconnected ideas.

I am available for any clarifications.

Kind Regards.
