Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Thanks for preparing the manuscript; however, significant improvement of the narrative and English is needed.

A clear description of the equipment is needed. The only reference for the details of the equipment (Yin et al. 2015) is not in English. Additional description of the contribution of "fluid"  for the true triaxial fluid-structure coupling test System. No clears if the tests were conducted on saturated and drained specimens. The reported elastic properties (10GPa) are too high for sandstone rocks, please provide additional information of the samples (e.g. porosity/void ratio).

Reviewer 2 Report

In this paper, different true triaxial loading and unloading rates are designed, and the Expansion and Deformation characteristics of sandstone under σ1 loading and σ3 unloading are experimentally studied, and some meaningful conclusions are obtained. The paper is clear and concise with high innovation. In my submission, this paper meets the publication requirements of this journal.

There are still some problems in this manuscript that need to be further modified. The specific problems are as follows:

1) The abstract could be more detailed.

2) In the introduction, a few sentences should be added regarding the numerical modeling of rock failure for different pressures.

3) Pictures 4, 7, 8, 9 and 10 are better called stress-strain characteristics

4) The conclusion should be concise and highlight the key points and should include all the important content in the text, suggest rewriting.

5) There is formatting errors in the reference that needs to be corrected
