Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper explores the establishment of inter-regional heterogeneous power generation substitute cooperation between regions dominated by traditional thermal power generation and renewable energy source power generation, with the goal of improving the efficiency of energy cooperation. The following comments need to be modified or explained.

1. In the second section, the authors introduce materials and methodology in detail. It's not clear whether these parts are related to the research in this paper or whether the method is new.

2. The layout of the paper is strange, and it is not clear whether it meets the requirements of the journal.

3. In establishing the evolutionary game system model, the authors presented many assumptions. How to ensure that the proposed game system model is universal.

4. The description of the system dynamics model of evolutionary game is unclear. The model should be described in a scientific way.

5. How to guarantee the stable conditions of the evolutionary game strategy in a realistic environment.

6. Because Section 5 lacks comparison with other methods, the superiority of the proposed method cannot be fully demonstrated.

7. The conclusion should be simplified so that the reader can easily follow the results of the paper.

8. The language of the paper needs further revision.

Reviewer 2 Report

The article entitled “A Study on Inter-regional Cooperation Patterns and Evolution Mechanism of traditional and renewable energy sources.” is written very well and according to the journal's scope. I want to recommend major changes before the final acceptance of the article.

Major revisions:

1. Please write the main policy implication at the end of abstract.

2. Authors have written the introduction quite well. The main contributions of the study should have to be written at the end of introduction, and therefore, please remove the article's structure from the introduction.

3.  Sustainability is an international journal. Therefore, I suggest you to please convert local currency units to USD.

4. In the first paragraph of the introduction, it is sated that “Meanwhile, the proportion of renewable energy sources (RES) in primary energy consumption increased by 3.08%, among which water energy accounted for 1.99% and non-water RES 1.09%”. The given sentence can breakdown into two parts with justification or references of previous studies [1,2] as “Meanwhile, the proportion of renewable energy sources (RES) in primary energy consumption [1,2]…..”

[1] Renewable energy strategies for sustainable development

[2] Understanding farmers’ intention and willingness to install renewable energy technology: A solution to reduce the environmental emissions of agriculture

Similarly, you have to provide the references for the second part of the above statement i.e.,

“…..which is increased by 3.08%, among which water energy accounted for 1.99% and non-water RES 1.09%”

The statements without references/justification are vague.

5. I highly suggest comparing your study's findings with previous published studies.

6. Please add the limitations and recommendations for future studies at the end on conclusion.

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

After the English language and style are minorly spell-checked, the revised paper meets publication requirements.

Author Response

Thanks for your enlightening suggestions.

Reviewer 2 Report

Although the authors have addressed previous comments, I am not satisfied with the addressed reports. In particular, the authors ignored comment 4, where the reviewer suggested breaking down the sentence into two parts with references to previous studies [1,2] as “Meanwhile, the proportion of renewable energy sources (RES) in primary energy consumption [1,2], which is increased by 3.08%, among which water energy accounted for 1.99% and non-water RES 1.09% [1,2]”
