Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript requires some minor editing for consistency of units and clarity of the message. For example,  μg mL-1 and μg/mL are both used in the paper. There should be uniformity in the units. The sentence "Sugar beet (Beta vulgaris cv. Oscar poly)were soaked in different concentrations (50, 100 and 150 μg L-1) ... (Line 18-19) should be modified to include "seeds" for clarity:" Sugar beet (Beta vulgaris cv. Oscar poly) seeds were soaked in different concentrations (50, 100 and 150 μg L-1)...). Figure  2 basically duplicates information in Table to and, hence, can be moved to Supplementary Materials.

Reviewer 2 Report

The study by Abou-Salem et al. investigates the effect of copper-based nanoparticles on fungal and bacterial microrganisms involved in damping-off disease, as well as on the growth and sugar content of sugar beet.

In my opinion, the objective of the study is interesting, the experimental design is well conceived and the results obtained are encouraging. I am therefore in favor of the publication of the manuscript in Sustainability.

I recommend enriching the Introduction and/or Discussion with recent literature information regarding the safety of CuO-NPs for the environment and humans.

I also recommend that you lighten the presentation of the results by avoiding listing too many numerical data in the text, which are already presented in the graphs and figures.

Finally, I recommend that you check the manuscript carefully before submitting the revised version, as it contains several errors, some of which are highlighted in the attached pdf file.
