Reviewer 2 Report

This study investigated the self-healing performance of microcapsules and 2 microcapsule-containing asphalt. Overall, this paper is interesting and well-written. However, the authors are recommended to address the following minor comments:

1.     Is n Poisson’s ratio of diamond indenter? Please add in Line 123.

2.     Please define the difference between microcapsules M1, M2, and M3. Provide the particle size of those three microcapsules. Why the values of elastic modulus and hardness of three different microcapsules were averaged? In my opinion, if those three microcapsules are different then they cannot average.

3.     If we see Fig. 5, the elastic modulus of M3 is higher than M2 and higher than M1. However, in Table 1, the elastic modulus of M1 is higher than M2 and higher than M3. Please explain.

4.     Why do the thicker capsules lead to greater elastic modulus and hardness? More explanation is needed.

5.     Label Fig. 5 as Fig. 5(a) and (b). Add the scale on the right side of Fig. 5.

6.     Use the different notation for microcapsule content in Table 3, the temperature in Table 4, time in Table 5, damage degree in Table 6, and self-healing time in Table 7. The description of the notation used has to be provided.

7.     The references are too little. Please add the references.
