Reviewer 2 Report

Interesting topic, with new original results. SMEs and greening activities are very important. Can you involve more SMEs? Can you provide about the corporate social responsibility?

Reviewer 3 Report

The article analyzes the connections between SMEs managers' individual attitudes and the environmental performance of the company. In addition, it analyzes whether there are links between company characteristics and the measures adopted.

The article is well written and presents interesting findings. I recommend removing the definition of CSR from the beginning of the introduction and moving it to the beginning of section 2. Similarly, to focus the topic more, I would move the description of SMEs from section 2 (paragraphs 13-16) to the introduction. I think that for the objectivity of research, the authors should eliminate the beginning that mentions Friedman (lines 34-42). I think it is a criticism that adds nothing in an article of this type.

One of the things that should be solved in the article is the absence of hypotheses. I think that the gap in the literature is well articulated and I miss a hypothesis at the end of section 2 and another at the end of section 3.

Regarding the methodology, I have not been able to develop a good review because I am not an expert.

Finally, regarding the discussion, I think it is well structured and contrasts well with or strengthens the previous literature. However, the long comments on the results are redundant (they are already in the results section). Therefore, I would shorten those parts a bit and go to the most important part of the findings, keeping the references to previous studies.

The references are a bit outdated. I think it would be good if new ones were added, such as, for example, some of the following. I attach DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jbusres.2020.10.040
