Biodiversity and Islands – China

Abstract

Islands affect biodiversity, not the other way around.

 Introduction

17 reserves were built but 22 were investigated. Please clarify

Material & Methods

  • The parameters of plants and animal species collected should be specified
  • … biodiversity will show an increase in scale, enrichment and diffusion …. Under which circumstances?
  • … shallow soil areas are often thick, … This does not make sense.

Results

  • The description of all 9 categories (page 4 – 6) should be shown in a table and placed under Methods because they were used in the analysis and they are not results
  • Category 3 just states animal species but does not specify the different animal species or genera
  • On page 11 it mentions “number of animals”. Is this referring to individuals or species?
  • On page 11 it mentions that 21 reserves were analysed instead of 22
  • Specify what the numbers 0 – 100 indicate on the map “Resistance of land use type”.

Conclusion

Briefly discuss whether it would be possible to create 400m wide corridors in populated areas

Reviewer 2 Report

The paper is very interesting and well built.

Introduction needs to be more explained both with relevant references and with the general purpose of the paper and methods involved.

Maybe Paragraph 2.4 could be better described.

In the final section Conclusion and Discussion, further research should be better defined.
