Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

I followed the interesting remarks made by Professor Mike G. Tsionas (on the paper “Bank competition and credit risk in euro area banking: Fragmentation and convergence dynamics”), and on the other hand, the punctual answers of the authors.

Based on my knowledge, I make the following assessments:

- I consider that the answer given by the authors of the paper to each remark of Professor Mike G. Tsionas is relevant and well-argued.

- the authors of the paper argue their work and the answers to the issues reported by Professor Mike G. Tsionas referring to the methodology they followed in the literature (such as the methodology of Kumbhakar at al., 2012), but also to the peculiarities of the banking sector. In addition, I appreciate that the answers provided by the authors are supported by the references made by several relevant empirical studies in the literature.

In conclusion, I believe that the authors' answers are pertinent, and some remarks by Professor Mike G. Tsionas would be useful to consider by the authors of the paper in future research.
