Abstract

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)-supported primary PCI in patients with acute coronary syndrome
Despite major advances in acute coronary syndrome management, several interventions remain challenging, such as percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs) conducted in patients with last remaining vessel disease. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) exhibits the potential of reducing the procedural-related risk associated with these interventions. The present case report describes two successful PCIs under ECMO support in high-risk patients, provides information on ECMO’s technical background, and discusses the technique’s other potential applications in the cardiology field.
