Author Response

Thank you for your helpful comments. We have added a sentence on page 2 which describes the common eligibility criteria for MAPs, based on research from Canada. As our study was hypothetical, we cannot comment based on our data.

Reviewer 2 Report

The article is quite interesting and offers several insights into the potential usefulness of MAPs as an intervention for alcohol-dependent individuals.

I have just a few comments on how the manuscript, in my opinion, could be improved:

INTRODUCTION

The authors could briefly describe the health problems faced by alcohol abusers.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Please add a flow diagram of the study protocol.

RESULTS

Line 168 – 178 This part should be included in the "materials and methods" section.

The results section should be summarized. Considerations made by "Stakeholders, Managers, Staff, Clients" could be included in special tables or as supplementary material to the publication.

Author Response

Thank you for your helpful comments.

  1. We have added in more detail about the physical health problems experienced on page 2.
  2. As this paper is reporting a qualitative study, we do not feel that providing a flow diagram of the study protocol is appropriate. We believe that our methods are clearly described.
  3. It is common practice in qualitative research to report participant details in the findings section rather than in the methods section, so we have kept this detail in lines 168-178.
  4. We do not think it is appropriate to present our qualitative findings in tables or in supplementary material and feel that the way in which our findings are presented are clear and in keeping with qualitative approaches.
