Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Greetings Author(s),

Overall, this is a worthwhile manuscript.  This study has one primary aim: to examine the effectiveness of an evidenced-based child trauma recovery program of Teaching Recovery Techniques (TRT) intervention with parenting sessions; TRT plus parenting (TRT+P), which aims to improve parent mental health and their ability to support their children’s mental health.  The three-arm RCT conducted among Syrian refugees over a 12 week period, uses a manualized workbook to train conductors of the intervention.   The enhancement of parenting education is a unique and beneficial supplement.  Tables/Figures are supportive of the findings related in the manuscript.  However, the tables could be formatted and labeled to support reader comprehension. The conclusions drawn from the study appear to be supported by the data as detailed in the paper.

Additional notes:

Suggest removal author notes at the end of the manuscript.

Recommend featuring reliability / Cronbach’s alpha measures for scales.

Recommend examining spacing and formatting throughout the manuscript [i.e. line 271 (was)]

Response: We thank the reviewer for these comments and are greatly encouraged that they share with us the appreciation of the novelty of this work in the context of refugee and challenged settings.

Tables/Figures are supportive of the findings related in the manuscript.  However, the tables could be formatted and labelled to support reader comprehension. The conclusions drawn from the study appear to be supported by the data as detailed in the paper.

Response: Thank you for the valuable comment, we have simplified the label of the main table (Table 2) in the text to support reader’s comprehension.

Additional notes:

Suggest removal author notes at the end of the manuscript.

Response: We thank the reviewer for noting this. We have now removed this.

Recommend featuring reliability / Cronbach’s alpha measures for scales.

Response: we thank the reviewer for this note. We have included an analysis of the reliability measures (Cronbach’s alpha) of our scales over repeated measure time in the discussion. We also added an observation for future research based on our observation of the findings.

Recommend examining spacing and formatting throughout the manuscript [i.e. line 271 (was)]

Response: Thank you for this useful comment. We have reviewed the entire document again to ensure formatting and spacing are much improved. For example, the removal of any extra spacing between paragraphs, and correct title font size. Reviewer 2 had also picked up a few formatting issues that we have now resolved too.

Reviewer 2 Report

The article is really good. If it weren't for the few mistakes typing I would have agreed to have it published without any revision. I read the article very carefully and I did not find any weaknesses or methodological mistakes. The statistical processing is correct and it was done by a public health specialist who knows biostatistics well. The discussions are objective and reflect a good knowledge of the topic. Such a study is very rare because it is technically difficult to perform it. I admired the data collection effort made by the research team.    So, my opinion is: This article is well written and scientifically correct. This is also the reason why I do not want to change anything in the content of the article. Any intervention on a good article has great chances to ruin it, and unnecessarily stress the authors.

Please correct the following typing mistakes:

R45 United Nations (UN)...

R53....Disorder...

R271....intervention was

R390......waitlist control

R391 group.

R433.....group (p...; p...))

Thank you!

Congratulations!
