Several members of the Marine Drugs and Food Institute at Ocean University of China in Qingdao have decided to launch this new international journal: Marine Drugs []. The accepted papers will be released immediately on line and distributed free of charge. A printed version will be produced under the sponsorship of the Ocean University of China. One issue will be produced in the first volume in 2003. Four issues will be produced in 2004.
Because we publish Marine Drugs as an electronic journal on the Internet [], we would like to take advantage of this fact and see more information presented. This will become primarily a style and focus issue for our new journal as a whole. By using the electronic format, we will be able to publish in full the data [] and information being used to generate the discussions and conclusions. Hopefully we will see the NMR plots or an image of the coral, or other images and even multimedia parts appear in Marine Drugs papers. This contrasts the traditional journal’s format, brief and tight as would be a benefit in a traditional paper based publication; our journal can be inclusive, utilizing the flexibility of the electronic format.
We believe that, guided by its prestigious international editorial board, together with our expertise from running online journals for the past 8 years [], we will produce this journal as an important forum for presenting high-quality papers.
Besides publishing at website, we will also produce printed edition of Marine Drugs. The printed version and the online version at http://www.mdpi.net/marinedrugs will be exactly the same (The same page numbers and the same page number range).
