Rolling is the main process in steel production. There are some problems in the rolling process, such as insufficient ability of abnormal detection and evaluation, low accuracy of process monitoring, and fault diagnosis. To improve the accuracy of quality-related fault diagnosis, this paper proposes a quality-related process monitoring and diagnosis method for hot-rolled strip based on weighted statistical feature KPLS. Firstly, the process-monitoring and diagnosis model of strip thickness and quality based on the KPLS method is introduced. Then, considering that the KPLS diagnosis method ignores the contribution of process variables to quality, it is easy to misjudge the root cause of quality in the diagnosis process. Based on the rolling mechanism model, the influence weight of strip thickness is constructed. By weighing the statistical data features, a quality diagnosis framework of series structure data fusion is constructed. Finally, the method is applied to the 1580 mm hot-rolling process for industrial verification. The verification results show that the proposed method has higher diagnostic accuracy than PLS, KPLS, and other methods. The results show that the diagnostic model based on weighted statistical feature KPLS has a diagnostic accuracy of more than 96% for strip thickness and quality-related faults. Full article

Due to the lack of a reasonable mechanism explanation for the data model used in the process of quality-related fault diagnosis, the diagnosis model has insufficient ability to identify faults, resulting in the phenomenon of failure detection or false positive. Therefore, this paper adopted the method of mechanism and data model fusion to solve the problem of insufficient interpretation of the influence of existing diagnosis methods on rolling process variables. Firstly, the KPLS achieves strip quality-related fault detection for nonlinear processes. In order to find out the abnormal variables, a nonlinear contribution plot was introduced to calculate the contribution value of each variable to the monitoring index. Secondly, based on the bounce equation of the rolling process, the static comprehensive analysis of the steady rolling process was carried out to reveal the influence of various variables on strip thickness. Thirdly, based on the above analysis of the steady rolling process mechanism, the influence weight method and kernel function method were used to reconstruct and map the original input matrix. A kernel partial least squares method based on influence weight W optimization (W-KPLS) was proposed for quality-related fault monitoring and diagnosis. Finally, the model was applied in the cold rolling process of an aluminum alloy sheet, and the validity of the model was further verified by practical industrial data. The results show that the new method improves the fault detection rate by more than 20% compared with the traditional monitoring method, and the proportion of data points reaching the early warning limit was increased to more than 95%. Recently, a large amount of research on deep learning has been conducted. Related studies have also begun to apply deep learning techniques to the field of electric machines, but such studies have been limited to the field of fault diagnosis. In this study, the shape optimization of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) for electric vehicles (EVs) was conducted using a multi-layer perceptron (MLP), which is a type of deep learning model. The target specifications were determined by referring to Renault’s Twizy, which is a small EV. The average torque and total harmonic distortion of the back electromotive force were used for the multi-objective functions, and the efficiency and torque ripple were chosen as constraints. To satisfy the multi-objective functions and constraints, the angle between the V-shaped permanent magnets and the rib thickness of the rotor were selected as design variables. To improve the accuracy of the design, the design of experiments was conducted using finite element analysis, and a parametric study was conducted through analysis of means. To verify the effectiveness of the MLP, metamodels was generated using both the MLP and a conventional Kriging model, and the optimal design was determined using the hybrid metaheuristic algorithm. To verify the structural stability of the optimized model, mechanical stress analysis was conducted. Moreover, because this is an optimal design problem with multi-objective functions, the changes in the optimal design results were examined as a function of the changes in the weighting. The optimal design results showed that the MLP technique achieved better predictive performance than the conventional Kriging model and is useful for the shape optimization of PMSMs. Full article
