Background/Objectives: Decision-making under socially evaluative stress engages a dynamic interplay between cognitive control, emotional appraisal, and motivational systems. Contemporary models of multi-level co-regulation posit that these systems operate in reciprocal modulation, redistributing processing resources to prioritise either rapid socio-emotional alignment or deliberate evaluation depending on situational demands. Methods: Adopting a neurofunctional approach, a novel dual-task protocol combining the MetaCognition–Stress Convergence Paradigm (MSCP) and the Social Stress Test Neuro-Evaluation (SST-NeuroEval), a simulated social–evaluative speech task calibrated across progressive emotional intensities, was implemented. Twenty professionals from an HR consultancy firm participated in the study, with concurrent recording of frontal-temporoparietal electroencephalography (EEG) and bespoke psychometric indices: the MetaStress-Insight Index and the TimeSense Scale. Results: Findings revealed that decision contexts with higher socio-emotional salience elicited faster, emotionally guided choices (mean RT difference emotional vs. cognitive: −220 ms, p = 0.026), accompanied by oscillatory signatures (frontal delta: F(1,19) = 13.30, p = 0.002; gamma: F(3,57) = 14.93, p ≤ 0.001) consistent with intensified socio-emotional integration and contextual reconstruction. Under evaluative stress, oscillatory activity shifted across phases, reflecting the transition from anticipatory regulation to reactive engagement, in line with models of phase-dependent stress adaptation. Across paradigms, convergences emerged between decision orientation, subjective stress, and oscillatory patterns, supporting the view that cognitive–emotional regulation operates as a coordinated, multi-level system. Conclusions: These results underscore the importance of integrating behavioural, experiential, and neural indices to characterise how individuals adaptively regulate decision-making under socially evaluative stress and highlight the potential of dual-paradigm designs for advancing theory and application in cognitive–affective neuroscience. Masculinity norms and gender socialization play a critical role in shaping boys’ attitudes, behaviours, and interactions within society. In South Africa, historical legacies of colonialism and apartheid, coupled with deeply ingrained cultural and societal expectations, have contributed to rigid masculinity norms that emphasize dominance, emotional restraint, and aggression. These constructs not only influence boys’ development but also have significant implications for gender-based violence (GBV). This paper explores how norms of masculinity and processes of gender socialization among boys in South Africa shape attitudes and behaviours that contribute to gender-based violence (GBV). The central aim is to offer a critical theoretical synthesis and contextual analysis that informs the development of gender-equitable policies and interventions. Drawing on theoretical frameworks such as hegemonic masculinities, intersectionality, and social learning theory, this study examines how historical, cultural, and socio-economic factors shape gender socialization and influence boys’ developmental trajectories. Through an intersectional lens, this paper underscores the urgent need to challenge harmful masculinity norms and promote alternative models that encourage emotional expression, empathy, and equitable gender relations. Finally, it provides recommendations on how these harmful norms can be disrupted through educational, community, media, and policy-level reforms to foster healthier masculinity norms and reduce GBV in South Africa. This study investigates the determinants of customers’ perception of business model innovation (BMI) and its impact on customer satisfaction (CS), customer loyalty (CL), and firm sustainability (FS) within Ecuadorian family economic groups (EFEGs). It also examines the moderating role of perceived BMI in the relationships between CS, CL, and FS. Data were collected through an online survey yielding 342 valid responses, using a structured instrument that included socio-demographic variables, perceived EFEG characteristics, and nine validated constructs. Reliability and validity were corroborated through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, while structural equation modeling (SEM) and multiple regression analyses were employed to test the proposed relationships. The results reveal that socially responsible consumption (SRC), technological/digital customer skills (TCS), value creation innovativeness (VCrI), value proposition innovativeness (VPI), and value capture innovativeness (VCI) significantly influence customers’ perception of BMI. In turn, BMI positively influences CS, CL, and FS, and moderates the relationships between CS and FS, and CL and FS, though it does not significantly moderate the CS–CL relationship. These findings are consistent with previous research on European family firms, emphasizing the relevance of innovation capabilities, entrepreneurial orientation, and socioemotional wealth in enhancing adaptability and performance in family-owned businesses. This study contributes novel empirical evidence on BMI in the context of an emerging economy dominated by family firms. It underscores BMI as a dynamic capability crucial for fostering customer engagement, improving competitiveness, and ensuring long-term sustainability. Managerial implications suggest that EFEG managers should prioritize digital integration, service innovation, and transparency to strengthen customer trust and loyalty. Future research should broaden the scope to include other Latin American contexts, integrate internal organizational perspectives, and explore intergenerational dynamics and digital transformation processes to deepen understanding of BMI in family business ecosystems. The rise of virtual models in the digital age presents a new frontier for cosmetic advertising. Nevertheless, the comparative effectiveness of “idealized” versus “naturalistic” facial features in these models remains a topic of debate and an area of development. This study examines the impact of “idealized” and “naturalistic” facial features in virtual models on consumers’ cognitive and affective responses. Using eye-tracking and a structural equation model, we analyzed visual attention patterns and the roles of affective resonance, trustworthiness, likability, and expertise perception. The results indicate that non-homogeneous or defective naturalistic features increase visual attention and purchase intention, with consumers focusing on imperfections such as freckles. In contrast, idealized facial features mainly draw attention to areas such as the eyes and nose. Mediation analysis reveals that likability and affective resonance are primary influences on purchase intention, while expertise perception and trustworthiness are secondary. This experiment suggests that consumers prioritize socio-emotional connections over professional authority when evaluating naturalistic designs. Our findings provide a framework for virtual model design, helping brands balance aesthetics with psychological optimization, and offer insights into the interplay between visual stimuli and human cognitive and emotional processes in decision-making. In high-density built environments, perceived density (PD)—shaped by physical, socio-cultural, and perceptual factors—often induces sensations of crowding, stress, and spatial oppression. Although green spaces are recognised for their stress-reducing effects, the influence of built-environment characteristics on public sentiment under stringent mobility restrictions remains inadequately explored. This study takes Chongqing, a representative mountainous metropolis in China, as a case to examine how natural and built environmental elements modulate emotional valence across varying PD levels. Using housing data (n = 4865) and geotagged Weibo posts (n = 120,319) collected during the 2022 lockdown, we constructed a PD-sensitive sentiment dictionary and applied Python’s Jieba package and natural language processing (NLP) techniques to analyse emotional scores related to PD. Spatial and bivariate autocorrelation analyses revealed clustered patterns of sentiment distribution and their association with physical density. Using entropy weighting, building density and floor area ratio were integrated to classify residential built environments (RBEs) into five tiers based on natural breaks. Key factors influencing positive sentiment across PD groups were identified through Pearson correlation heatmaps and OLS regression. Three main findings emerged: (1) Although higher-PD areas yielded a greater volume of positive sentiment expressions, they exhibited lower diversity and intensity compared to low-PD areas, suggesting inferior emotional quality; (2) Environmental and socio-cultural factors showed limited effects on sentiment in low-PD areas, whereas medium- and high-PD areas benefited from a significantly enhanced cumulative effect through the integration of socio-cultural amenities and transportation facilities—however, this positive correlation reversed at the highest level (RBE 5); (3) The model explained 20.3% of the variance in positive sentiment, with spatial autocorrelation effectively controlled. These findings offer nuanced insights into the nonlinear mechanisms linking urban form and emotional well-being in high-density mountainous settings, providing theoretical and practical guidance for emotion-sensitive urban planning. Over the past 30 years, early childhood education has emerged as a critical program and policy initiative of Canadian provincial governments and jurisdictions. With the recent announcement by the Government of Canada regarding plans to create and implement a national childcare system, tensions have been on the rise regarding early childhood educators’ (ECEs’) professional development. Informed by socio-constructivist and socio-cultural theories, this study examines the experiences of 18 ECEs and 10 coaches while being trained to use the Pyramid Model (PM) for promoting social-emotional competence in early childhood education. The study investigates the tensions and coexistence of two distinct educational philosophical paradigms—interpretivism and positivism—within the project implementation process, particularly how these paradigms influenced ECEs’ professional development. An action research methodology was utilized, and six focus group interviews were conducted with ECEs and coaches between 2023 and 2025. Findings reveal a perceived conflict between the PM’s positivist approach and the interpretative lenses that ground the early learning framework used in the province. However, as implementation progressed, participants began merging practices from both paradigms while engaging in meaningful professional reflexive processes. This study contributes to a broader understanding of how professional learning unfolds in complex, multi-paradigmatic contexts. The study highlights the need to create professional learning spaces where ECEs can collectively become participants and agents of change. By exploring the interplay between philosophical paradigms and professional development practices, this research aims to inform future efforts in ECEs’ professional development initiatives and to shed light on the complex dynamics at play when contrasting paradigms become explicit within professional learning opportunities. The article explores how pro-environmental action relates to knowledge processes and fosters transformative changes in vulnerable settings. Drawing on eleven pro-environmental initiatives in five countries (Bulgaria, Hungary, Portugal, Romania and Türkiye), the study focuses on locally embedded actions responding to environmental threats, biodiversity loss and traditional practices. Based on 71 semi-structured interviews with citizens, we captured how environmental stewardship is shaped through lived experience, situated knowledge and shifting roles of actors under variable, often adverse governance conditions. We found that knowledge emerges as a co-produced and relational process, blending scientific, traditional, experiential and process-related knowledge. This supports participation and legitimacy and enables transformative (or behavioural) change. Transformative outcomes appear as behavioural shifts, self-empowerment, increased community agency and broader societal signals evolving from participation. The article contributes to the debate on sustainability transformation as it showcases potentially uncharted factors in current sustainability transition studies, i.e., emotional, political and relational dimensions of local pro-environmental actions in vulnerable settings. Even if systemic conditions limit transformative processes, this practical knowledge might be scaled up or adapted to other local or regional contexts to confront dominant socio-economic models and propose more inclusive, just and sustainable alternatives. We examined the effects of emotional intelligence (EI) and the Big Five on students’ performance in collaborative problem solving (CPS). 162 secondary-school students completed the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test and the Big Five Inventory. Divided into 54 triads (64.8% female), they then collaboratively solved a complex social problem. Based on video-recordings of the CPS sessions, we assessed four CPS processes: the team’s socio-cognitive exchange, socio-emotional interaction, task management, and relationship management. The CPS product (solution) of each team was judged by two independent raters. Using structural equation modelling (1) with team-level EI abilities as predictors, we found a small indirect effect (via CPS processes) of both understanding and managing emotions on the CPS product, and a medium-size direct effect of understanding emotions on the same criterion; (2) with team-level traits as predictors, a medium-size positive effect of neuroticism on task management, a small negative effect of extraversion on relationship management, and a small positive effect of openness on the CPS product. A model including both EI and personality confirmed their independent contributions to CPS performance, with EI abilities contributing both directly and indirectly to the CPS product, and the contribution of personality narrowed down to neuroticism positively affecting task management. This paper describes the ScratchJr Bots project aimed at helping young children develop maker literacies, which is the ability to design, program, and build technology-rich projects with developmentally appropriate tools to express themselves. Maker literacies can involve hands-on learning, collaborative experimentation, critical thinking, and problem-solving, as well as the development of socio-emotional skills. By engaging with the design process, children become active creators rather than passive consumers—brainstorming ideas, prototyping, testing, and making improvements toward sharing a final project. Maker literacies engage children in Positive Technological Development in the form of six behaviors—content creation, creativity, choices of conduct, communication, collaboration, and community building. Additionally, children develop character strengths, or virtues, such as patience, generosity, and forgiveness while making. This paper will first introduce the concept of maker literacies as it applies to early childhood and the theoretical background supporting this work. Then, it will introduce the ScratchJr Bots project developed by the DevTech Research Group, a new technology and curriculum that affords the development of maker literacies. Finally, by using design-based research as the methodological approach, two pilot projects are described, including children’s learning experiences, to illustrate the positive behaviors and character strengths that children can exhibit while engaging with ScratchJr Bots. Green food serves as a bridge connecting healthy lifestyles with environmental values, particularly in the context of sustainable consumption transitions. However, existing research lacks a systematic understanding of how consumers negotiate cognitive evaluations and emotional responses when forming green food purchase intentions. This study addresses that gap by exploring the cognitive–affective negotiation process underlying consumers’ green food choices. Based on 26 semi-structured interviews with Chinese consumers across diverse socio-economic backgrounds, the grounded theory methodology was employed to inductively construct a conceptual model. The coding process achieved theoretical saturation, while sentiment analysis was integrated to trace the emotional valence of key behavioral drivers. Findings reveal that external factors—including price sensitivity, label ambiguity, access limitations, social influence, and health beliefs—shape behavioral intentions indirectly through three core affective mediators: green trust, perceived value, and lifestyle congruence. These internal constructs translate contextual stimuli into evaluative and motivational responses, highlighting the dynamic interplay between rational judgments and symbolic–emotional interpretations. Sentiment analysis confirmed that emotional trust and psychological reassurance are pivotal in facilitating consumption intention, while price concerns and skepticism act as affective inhibitors. The proposed model extends the Theory of Planned Behavior by embedding affective mediation pathways and structural constraint dynamics, offering a more context-sensitive framework for understanding sustainable consumption behaviors. Given China’s certification-centered trust environment, these findings underscore the cultural specificity of institutional trust mechanisms, with implications for adapting the model in different market contexts. Practically, this study offers actionable insights for policymakers and marketers to enhance eco-label transparency, reduce structural barriers, and design emotionally resonant brand narratives that align with consumers’ identity aspirations. This study explores the psychological and social impacts of the forced use of self-service technologies (SSTs) in South Korea’s hospitality and tourism sectors, focusing on perceptions of service dehumanization among different age groups. Grounded in symbolic interactionism theory, the research aims to uncover how reduced interpersonal interaction affects perceived service quality and emotional response. A quantitative approach was employed using data collected from 300 Korean adults (150 older adults and 150 young adults). The study utilized the PROCESS Macro to test mediation effects of reduced human contact, empathy, and authenticity, as well as the moderating role of employee presence in shaping dehumanization perceptions. The results indicate that the mandatory use of SSTs significantly diminishes the perceived social value of service encounters, thereby increasing feelings of dehumanization. This effect is mediated by a reduction in human contact, empathy, and authenticity. Moreover, the presence of employees moderates this relationship, particularly intensifying dehumanization perceptions among older adult participants. Gender was not a significant factor in these perceptions. These findings suggest that while SSTs may improve operational efficiency, their forced implementation can negatively impact customer experience, especially for older adults. Hospitality and tourism providers should consider hybrid service models that maintain optional human interaction to mitigate adverse psychological effects. This study contributes to the limited research on SSTs and service dehumanization by integrating symbolic interactionism theory and highlighting the moderating role of employee presence. It offers novel insights into age-related differences in SST acceptance and the socio-emotional costs of automation in service contexts. Full article

University students face increased stress and potential school burnout amid rapid digital transformation and competitive academic environments, yet little is known about how socioemotional processes explain the link between burnout and life satisfaction. This study examined how school burnout affects life satisfaction, mediated by loneliness and fear of alienation. A cross-sectional survey of 1783 students was conducted to measure school burnout, loneliness, fear of alienation, and life satisfaction. Structural equation modeling showed that school burnout had a significant negative direct effect on life satisfaction, mediated by loneliness. Higher burnout predicted greater loneliness, which in turn lowered life satisfaction. Although school burnout positively predicted fear of alienation, fear of alienation showed a complex association, with a positive direct path to life satisfaction. However, when loneliness was considered in the full mediation model, the overall indirect effect remained significantly negative. The sequential mediation pathway (school burnout → loneliness → fear of alienation → life satisfaction) highlighted how students’ social disconnection can intensify concerns about exclusion, ultimately affecting their well-being. These findings extend the literature by clarifying the socioemotional mechanisms linking school burnout and life satisfaction. The Role of Fear of Negative Evaluation and Loneliness in Linking Insecure Attachment to Social Media Addiction: Evidence from Chinese University Students

Background and Objectives: With the widespread integration of digital media into daily life, social media addiction (SMA) has become a growing concern for university students’ mental health. Based on attachment theory, this study examined how attachment anxiety and avoidance influence SMA through fear of negative evaluation (FNE) and loneliness. Methods: A sample of 400 Chinese university students completed the 16-item short version of the Experiences in Close Relationships Scale (ECR), the 8-item Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale (BFNE), the 6-item Revised UCLA Loneliness Scale–Short Form (RULS-6), and the 6-item Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS). Using the PROCESS macro (Model 6), a chained mediation model was tested. Results: Attachment anxiety positively predicts SMA (β = 0.42); the chained mediation pathway through FNE and loneliness accounts for ab = 0.06 of this effect, alongside additional single-mediator paths. In contrast, attachment avoidance shows a weaker total effect (β = −0.08) and a small negative chained mediation effect (ab = −0.02), offset by opposing single-mediator paths via FNE (negative) and loneliness (positive), resulting in a nonsignificant total indirect effect. Discussion: These findings suggest that in the Chinese cultural context, where social evaluation and belonging are emphasized, insecure attachment may heighten emotional reliance on social media. This study elucidates the socio-emotional mechanisms underlying SMA and extends the application of attachment theory to the digital media environment. Full article

Emotion recognition is an essential social ability that continues to develop across adolescence, a period of critical socio-emotional changes. In the present study, we examine how signals from different sensory modalities, specifically touch and facial expressions, are integrated into a holistic understanding of another’s feelings. Adolescents (n = 30) and young adults (n = 30) were presented with dynamic faces displaying either a positive (happy) or a negative (sad) expression. Crucially, facial expressions were anticipated by a tactile stimulation, either positive or negative. Across two experiments, we use different tactile primes, both in first-person experience (experiment 1) and in the vicarious experience of touch (experiment 2). We measured accuracy and reaction times to investigate whether tactile stimuli affect facial emotional processing. In both experiments, results indicate that adolescents were more sensitive than adults to the influence of tactile primes, suggesting that sensory cues modulate adolescents’ accuracy and velocity in evaluating emotion facial expression. The present findings offer valuable insights into how tactile experiences might shape and support emotional development and interpersonal social interactions. Full article

Background/Objectives: Children with above-average cognitive functioning often present complex developmental profiles, combining high cognitive potential with heterogeneous socio-emotional and learning trajectories. Although the cognitive and behavioral characteristics of giftedness have been widely studied in Anglophone countries, evidence remains limited in Southern Europe. This study aimed to investigate the cognitive, academic, and emotional–behavioral profiles of Italian children and adolescents with above-average cognitive functioning, using an inclusive, dimensional approach (IQ > 114). Methods: We analyzed a cross-sectional sample of 331 children and adolescents (ages 2.11–16.5 years), referred for clinical cognitive or behavioral evaluations. Participants were assessed using the WPPSI-III or WISC-IV for cognitive functioning, the MT battery for academic achievement, and the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) for emotional and behavioral symptoms. Comparative and correlational analyses were performed across age, gender, and functional domains. A correction for multiple testing was applied using the Benjamini–Hochberg procedure. Results: Gifted participants showed strong verbal comprehension (mean VCI: preschoolers = 118; school-aged = 121) and relative weaknesses in working memory (WM = 106) and processing speed (PS = 109). Males outperformed females in perceptual reasoning (PR = 121 vs. 118; p = 0.032), while females scored higher in processing speed (112 vs. 106; p = 0.021). Difficulties in writing and arithmetic were observed in 47.3% and 41.8% of school-aged participants, respectively. Subclinical internalizing problems were common in preschool and school-aged groups (mean CBCL T = 56.2–56.7). Working memory negatively correlated with total behavioral problems (r = −0.13, p = 0.046). Conclusions: These findings confirm the heterogeneity of gifted profiles and underscore the need for personalized educational and psychological interventions to support both strengths and vulnerabilities in gifted children. Caution is warranted when interpreting these associations, given their modest effect sizes and the exploratory nature of the study. Full article
