Carbon Emission Reduction Decision-Making in an Online Freight Platform Service Supply Chain Under Carbon Trading Mechanism

Promoting carbon emission reduction in road freight transportation is important to achieve low-carbon development. The carbon trading mechanism is an effective market mechanism to promote carbon emission reduction. The digital and networked features of the online freight platform (OFP) service supply chain (SSC) not only help the platform reduce carbon emissions but also facilitate the government’s achievement of efficient and economic supervision of carbon emissions. Therefore, this paper proposes two types of carbon trading mechanism based on the OFP SSC to investigate the carbon emission reduction decision of the OFP, namely an absolute emission cap-based allocation (AC) model and an intensity-based allocation (IC) model. By using game theory, we then analyze the optimal solutions of the OFP SSC under the non-participation in carbon trading market (NC model), the AC model, and the IC model. By comparing these decisions, we explore the impact of the carbon trading mechanism on the OFP SSC. Results show the following: (1) Carbon trading mechanisms reduce OFP emissions, particularly under IC models with high free allowances. (2) High initial allowances and low service costs under the carbon trading mechanism enhance the OFP’s profit. (3) The carbon trading mechanism can reduce the carbon emissions of the road freight sector when initial allowances are sufficient or the off-platform trucker’s carbon emission coefficient is low. The study concludes that the IC model optimizes emission cuts while maintaining platform profitability. From a managerial perspective, the government should adopt dynamic allowance policies and incentivize the OFP’s participation through data integration. OFPs must balance network growth with low-carbon technology adoption to align commercial and environmental objectives. Full article

Shared supply chains (SSCs) represent a critical practice in the field of the sharing economy. With the aid of digital technologies, SSCs improve resource utilization through efficiently re-allocating and sharing. This paper develops a three-tier SSC model comprising a supplier, a retailer, and a sharing platform. The model is based on a Stackelberg dynamic framework and incorporates both resource sharing and altruistic behaviors. Our findings reveal that different altruistic modes significantly alter members’ decision logics: supplier altruism is manifested by lower supply prices and enhanced supply efforts; retailer altruism improves system supply efficiency through increased supply efforts; and the sharing platform, through resource integration and service optimization, comprehensively elevates overall SSC operations. Furthermore, numerical experimental analysis indicated that as altruistic parameters increased, overall system performance improved significantly. Notably, the marginal contribution of platform altruism surpassed that of both the supplier and the retailer, underscoring its pivotal role as a central hub in SSC systems. In addition, joint altruism can achieve a Pareto improvement for both individual members and overall system utility. This study provides an important theoretical basis for designing multi-agent collaborative mechanisms in SSCs. Full article

The goal of this study is to investigate the regulation effect of relationship quality in the process of the omni-channel (OC) model on service supply chain (SSC) collaboration of agricultural products. Furthermore, it is also to explore the intermediary effect of SSC collaboration in the process of service innovation and OC. A questionnaire was developed, research data were gathered from businesses in the agricultural SSC in western China, and an empirical study was carried out by using the AMOS multivariate statistical analysis approach after a thorough review of the literature in recent years. The study demonstrates that the OC model has a considerable impact on service innovation, SSC collaboration has an intermediary effect, and the quality of supply chain (SC) relationships has a regulation effect in the model. The results inspire academics and industry professionals to focus on SSC collaboration, improve the OC model’s administration, and promote service innovation in agricultural SC. Finally, the paper proposes suggestions to promote agricultural product development in western China in terms of enhancing SSC collaboration, OC model, and service innovation. Full article

The threat due to risk factors disrupts supply chain continuity. To ensure supply chain continuity, it is important to understand the interdependency between seaport risk factors and the threat of supply chain disruption, from an economic and risk management perspective. This study understands the threat utility of port-centric supply chain risk disruption (PSCRD). It proposes a rough set-based genetic algorithm model and adopts the hybrid-conjoint analysis concept to generate the threat utility function. It is the sum of the level of disruption by the conditional seaport risk factors influencing the satisfaction of seaport-fulcrum supply chain continuity. It selects Indonesia to illustrate PSCRD empirically. Based on 153 samples of experts’ evaluation, the rough set model highlights 24 conditional seaport risks as central tendency risk factors and classifies them into ten-dimensional threat factors. The results show that the seaport service process threat is the primary source of PSCRD in Indonesia; it reduces utility satisfaction to 32.2%, in the 100% utility estimation. This is followed by the relationship and planning process threats with 28% and 26.6% utilities, respectively. This study presents a framework to analyze PSCRD in relation to utility satisfaction and demonstrates the need for an integrated plan to enhance SSC resilience. Full article

Socio-ecologic, socio-economic, and socio-technical transitions are opportunities that require fundamental changes in the system. These will encounter matters associated with security, service adoption by end-users, infrastructure and availability. The purpose of this study is to examine and overcome the risks to take advantage of opportunities through the novel Risky-Opportunity Analysis Method (ROAM). A novel quantitative method is designed to determine when, after making some changes, the risks become acceptable so that the opportunity does not deviate from the objectives. The approach provided a quantitative evaluation of the possible changes in parallel with digitization, towards providing a green Service Supply Chain (SSC). The result of ROAM shows that the most cost-effective change to increase the resilience of the system is a solution (SMS) which is different from that identified by a TOPSIS multi-criteria method. Real-word decisions in change management should tackle the complexity of systems and uncertainty of events during and after transition through a careful analysis of the alternatives. A case-study was carried out to evaluate the alternatives of an ancillary service in the Payment Service Providers (PSP). The comparison of the ROAM results with the traditional TOPSIS of the case-study unveils the priority of the ROAM in practice when the alternatives are Risky-Opportunities. The existing risk assessment tools do not take advantage of risky opportunities. To this aim, the current article introduces the term Risky-Opportunity, and two indexes—Stress and Strain—of the alternatives that are designed to be employed in the new quantitative ROAM approach. This research aims to discuss the business model themes supported by the innovation regarding the sustainable transition difficulties to promote the hospital supply chains. A model for future applications and empirical analyzes in the health service area is proposed. In the current hospital scenario, the systems are characterized by the individualistic attention of the closed business models, hampering the promotion of the business models, the innovation, and the sustainable transitions as the sustainable supply chain (SSC) enablers. The survey evaluates the private hospital chain in Brazil. The model was evaluated by seven specialists indicated by the main private Brazilian hospitals that are accredited by Joint Commission International and Public Ministry. The discussion presented seeks to advance the observation and the understanding of the relationships among the business models, the innovation, the sustainable transitions, and the sustainable supply chains in the health socioeconomic context through the lens of the service provider, without exhausting these themes separately. The main results are the issues related to the difficulties of sustainable transition to promote the SSC in the hospital context, showing the elements into which the hospitals are inserted and helping to close the gap in the literature on the subject. Sustainable transitions, along with the SSC, present themselves as rich and challenging themes, but are beneficial for conducting dialogues between approaches. Full article
