With the development of the EV industry, the number of EVs is increasing, and the random charging and discharging causes a great burden on the power grid. Meanwhile, the increasing electricity bills reduce user satisfaction. This article proposes an algorithm that considers user satisfaction to solve the charging and discharging scheduling problem of EVs. This article adds an objective function to quantify user satisfaction and addresses the issues of premature local optima and insufficient diversity in the MOPSO algorithm. Based on the performance of different particles, the algorithm assigns elite particle, general particle, and learning particle roles to the particles and assigns strategies for maintaining search, developing search, and learning search, respectively. In order to avoid falling into local optima, chaotic sequence perturbations are added during each iteration process avoiding premature falling into local optima. Finally, case studies are implemented and the comparison analysis is performed in terms of the use and benefit of each design feature of the algorithm. The results show that the proposed algorithm is capable of achieving up to 23% microgrid load reduction and up to 20% improvement in convergence speed compared to other algorithms. It is superior to other algorithms in solving the problem of orderly charging and discharging of electric vehicles and has strong usability and feasibility. Full article

With the popularization of electric private cars and the increase of charging facilities in residential areas, disorderly charging will affect the power supply efficiency of their distribution transformers and the quality of electricity used by users in residential areas. In severe cases, it may even cause vibration of the power grid, causing serious three-phase imbalance problems such as single-phase burnout of transformers or insulation breakdown of household appliances. This paper analyzes the influencing factors of the unbalanced operation of each phase of the distribution transformer and the electrical load characteristics of typical residential areas. Based on the photovoltaic output of the station area, the charging and discharging capacity of the energy storage system, and the orderly charging plan of residential electric vehicles, a local orderly charging strategy for electric vehicles based on energy routers under the three-phase balance of the residential area is proposed. This strategy can realize the three-phase balance control of the distribution transformer. The effectiveness of the method is verified by a typical scenario example. The control method is changed to minimize the three-phase imbalance in residential areas and improve the low utilization rate of the distribution network and the comprehensive utilization efficiency of adjustable resources in residential areas. Electric vehicles (EVs) represent an important socio-economic development opportunity for islands and remote locations because they can lead to reduced fuel imports, electricity storage, grid services, and environmental and health benefits. This paper presents an overview of opportunities, challenges, and examples of EVs in islands and remote power systems, and is meant to provide background to researchers, utilities, energy offices, and other stakeholders interested in the impacts of electrification of transportation. The impact of uncontrolled EV charging on the electric grid operation is discussed, as well as several mitigation strategies. Of particular importance in many islands and remote systems is taking advantage of local resources by combining renewable energy and EV charging. Policy and economic issues are presented, with emphasis on the need for an overarching energy policy to guide the strategies for EVs growth. The key conclusion of this paper is that an orderly transition to EVs, one that maximizes benefits while addressing the challenges, requires careful analysis and comprehensive planning. Full article

Orderly power utilization (OPU) is an important measure to alleviate contradiction between supply and demand in a power system peak load period. As a load management system becomes smarter, it is necessary to fully explore the interactive ability among users and make schemes for OPU more applicable. Therefore, an intelligent multi-agent apanage management system that includes a mutual aid mechanism (MAM) is proposed. In the decision-making scheme, users’ participation patterns and the potential of peak shifting and willingness are considered, as well as the interests of both power consumers and power grid are comprehensively considered. For residential users, the charging time for their electric vehicles (EVs) is managed to consume the locally distributed power generation. To fully exploit user response potential, the algorithm for improved clustering by fast search and find of density peaks (I-CFSFDP), i.e., clusters the power load curve, is proposed. To conduct electrical mutual aid among users and adjust the schemes reasonably, a multi-objective optimization model (M2OM) is established based on the cluster load curves. The objectives include the OPU control cost, the user’s electricity cost, and the consumption of distributed photovoltaic (PV). Our results of a case study show that the above method is effective and economical for improving interactive ability among users. Agents can coordinate their apanage power resources optimally. Experiments and examples verify the practicability and effectiveness of the improved algorithm proposed in this study. Full article
