Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce a Special Issue entitled “Physiology of Swallowing: Pharyngeal and Laryngeal Mechanisms” in the Journal of Otorhinolaryngology, Hearing and Balance Medicine, an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal, which provides an advanced forum for studies on all aspects of otorhinolaryngology. The journal will join other successful international journals, with the aim of promoting knowledge and important new findings. Though this is a young new journal, we expect rapid and exponential growth, as other new journals have achieved through the MDPI platform.
This special edition will accept original research articles and comprehensive review manuscripts which address the pharyngeal and/or laryngeal mechanisms of the physiology of swallowing. The physiological mechanisms include the motor responses of pharynx and larynx; motor, sensory, and central neural responses; and neurochemical responses. Manuscripts which address differences in swallowing physiology regarding the type or volume of the bolus, and developmental stage or age of the individual will be accepted. In addition, these studies may also address developmental mechanisms of the physiological processes. Manuscripts will be accepted based on human or animal studies, but the animal studies must address physiological mechanisms similar to humans. All accepted manuscripts will be published after a thorough peer review process.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Otorhinolaryngology, Hearing and Balance Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access semiannually journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
