Evaluating cognitive impairment following stroke and finding ways to alleviate it have been identified as top research priorities by both healthcare professionals and, most importantly, those affected by stroke.
Post-stroke cognitive deficits in one or multiple domains—such as attention, memory, or language—are common. Some reports even suggest that two out of three stroke survivors will experience them at some point. Stroke also more than doubles the risk of developing dementia—the most severe form of cognitive impairment. And this cognitive aftermath can severely compromise independence, social participation, and overall quality of life.
We are excited to showcase research from around the world that aims to deepen our understanding of the mechanisms and impact of post-stroke cognitive impairment, and explore how best to assess, predict, prevent, and manage cognitive dysfunction.
