Reimagining Cultural and Educational Spaces: Land, Learning and Sustainability in the Digital–Intelligent Age
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Cultural and educational spaces are increasingly recognized as critical arenas for advancing sustainable development. Beyond their traditional roles in transmitting knowledge and fostering community identity, these spaces are now deeply embedded in the wider transformations of digital–intelligent technologies, global transitions, and shifting urban–rural dynamics. They serve as laboratories of social innovation, sites of cultural resilience, and platforms for sustainable practices that link local communities with global agendas. Examining these spaces provides a deeper understanding of how societies adapt to change while negotiating the balance between cultural continuity, educational innovation, and sustainable futures.
This Special Issue will collect papers (original research articles and review papers) that explore the role of cultural and educational spaces in sustainable development, examining their evolving functions, practices, and impacts. The Special Issue is closely aligned with the scope of Geographies, as it situates cultural and educational infrastructures within broader questions surrounding land use, community sustainability, social equity, and the spatial dimensions of global transitions. By highlighting the intersections of space, culture, education, and sustainability, this Special Issue will contribute to the journal’s ongoing dialogue on the interdependence of human and environmental systems.
This Special Issue will welcome manuscripts that discuss the following themes:
- The transformation of cultural and educational spaces under digital–intelligent and global transitions;
- Cultural and educational spaces as drivers of sustainable urban and rural development;
- Place-making, identity, and memory in cultural and educational infrastructures;
- Comparative and cross-cultural studies of cultural and educational spaces in different contexts;
- Governance, policy, and planning dimensions of cultural and educational sustainability;
- Innovative practices and case studies demonstrating cultural and educational contributions to sustainable development.
We welcome both original research articles and review papers that address these themes from diverse disciplinary and methodological perspectives.
