The International Congress on Palaeontological Heritage IX [ICPH-9] is an event dedicated to the palaeontological and palaeoarchaeological heritage, created to communicate and exchange novel research concerning topics related to the preservation and enhancement of palaeontological and archaeological heritage. It is an event where national and international researchers, socio-economic operators and activists, as well as activists in the field of legislations of the palaeontological heritage may meet. It is also an opportunity for MSc. and PhD. students, as well as early-career researchers, to network with the various stakeholders. There, the different generations of Moroccan palaeontologists will be able to discuss the purpose of the creation of an association of the Moroccan palaeontologists.
The main objectives of the ICPH-9 can be summarised as follows:
- Presenting and exchanging new research work in geology, palaeontology, archaeology and prehistory concerning fossiliferous and archaeological geosites;
- Introducing the new methods, tools and techniques used for assessment and inventory of natural heritage;
- Introducing the new geoconservation strategies and programmes for its protection and enhancement;
- Strengthening cooperation and collaboration between worldwide researchers and socio-economic operators;
- Raising awareness and involving local communities and authorities in the protection of geoheritage, particularly palaeontological heritage, as well as its enhancement through the creation of reserves, museums and geoparks;
- Evaluating the activities carried out on the basis of the recommendations of previous meetings and continuing the debate regarding their objectives;
- Discussing the legislative aspect of the protection of geoheritage by reviewing the achievements made so far and by consolidating the gains;
- Approaching the pedagogical problem of palaeontology research, which is about to disappear from the university and become "extinct" just like the fossils, the subjects of its investigations.
