Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The main topics of the Issue will be regarding the use of Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the agriculture and food industry. IoT results in a massive amount of streaming data, often referred to as “big data”, which creates new opportunities to monitor agricultural and food processes. Besides sensors, big data from social media is also becoming important for the agri-food industry. IoT, big data, and AI are envisaged to transform the future of agri-food systems. Multinational corporations are increasingly investing in the areas of IoT-driven agri-food sector. Recent advancements in computing power have given an opportunity to realize complex AI techniques for the monitoring and automation of agricultural and food processes. The pace of innovations in the field of IoT, big data, and AI are astounding, and tasks that seemed impossible a few years ago have now been implemented with great success. Embracing such technological innovations and putting them to work is important for the success of the modern agriculture and food industry. From this perspective, the Special Issue wants to contribute to the field, presenting the most relevant advances in this research area.

The following are some of the topics proposed for this Special Issue:

  • Big data implementation in agri-food industry;
  • IoT devices for digital agriculture and food industry;
  • Miniature spectrometers as IoT sensors for agri-food industry;
  • Web and social media analysis for agri-food systems;
  • Machine Learning (ML) and deep learning algorithms for agri-food systems;
  • Blockchain technology for the agri-food supply chain.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. AgriEngineering is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
