The editorial team of Children (ISSN: 2227-9067) is pleased to announce the launch of a new Section, “Pediatric Pain Therapy and Palliative Care”, of which Prof. Dr. Boris Zernikow from Witten/Herdecke University, Germany, has been appointed Section Editor-in-Chief.
The “Pediatric Pain Therapy and Palliative Care” Section accepts all articles and reviews related to pediatric pain and palliative care. The Section focuses on acute pain in children like vaccination pain, acute pain in other healthcare settings, and in the trajectory of severe illnesses. Another major field to cover is chronic pain in children, e.g., headache, abdominal pain, and/or musculoskeletal pain, that arise primarily or secondarily during episodes of organ destruction or malfunction. The Section focuses on children, adolescents, and young adults with life‐threatening or life‐limiting conditions and their families in the whole disease trajectory from diagnosis to death. Communication with patients and parents, shared decision-making, advanced care planning, and multimodal and interprofessional treatment are major topics of interest. The four dimensions of palliative care—the biological, psychological, social and spiritual dimension—will be covered.
