The transition toward Industry 4.0 in civil infrastructure is redefining how pavement quality is monitored and controlled. Conventional retrospective sampling methods often leave spatial gaps and provide delayed feedback, limiting the ability to respond effectively during construction. As infrastructure projects grow in scale and complexity, there is increasing demand for proactive, real-time monitoring systems embedded directly into the construction workflow.

Recent advances in high-frequency sensing technologies demonstrate how intelligent, non-destructive approaches can transform asphalt quality control. By integrating ground-penetrating radar (GPR) with GPS-RTK positioning, real-time dielectric measurements and high-resolution thermal mapping of compaction status can be achieved during paving operations. These capabilities enable continuous assessment rather than isolated point-based inspections.

This webinar will highlight key technical innovations that ensure data accuracy in dynamic construction environments, including vibration-resistant sensor mounting designs, cm-level timestamp–path synchronization algorithms, and calibration methodologies that mitigate water film and vibration-induced measurement errors. Automated spatial mapping and time-series compaction pattern recognition further convert raw GPR signals into intuitive 5 cm resolution thermal maps of density and temperature fields.
