Acta Microbiologica Hellenica: A New Era of a Historical Journal

The first issue of Acta Microbiologica Hellenica, a bimonthly journal in Greek, was published in 1956 by the Hellenic Society for Microbiology, one of the oldest and most respected scientific Greek medical societies, founded in 1932. In 2009, it became a quarterly publication, and in 2016, it became a bilingual journal. For almost seven decades, it has been constantly fostering communication and interaction among all branches of microbiology and medical biopathology [1,2]. I thank our readers, authors, and reviewers for their unceasing support in transforming the original idea into the current dynamic reality of the journal.

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically changed our lives and undoubtedly challenged the resilience of public health systems worldwide. It has also emphasized the need to find more effective ways to conduct, share, and communicate science in order to promote public health strategies for the prevention, diagnosis, and control of diseases [3].

With great delight and pride, Acta Microbiologica Hellenica is now joining the MDPI family, aiming for international inclusiveness and impact through fruitful cooperation [4].

On behalf of the Editorial Board and team, I welcome you to our journal and encourage you to submit your original research. We look forward to your contributions and support. Our mission remains to provide scientists in the fields of clinical microbiology, laboratory haematology, medical biochemistry, and immunology with outstanding articles that enhance research and education and to offer them more scientific tools to enable them to contribute not only to everyday patients’ care but also to the management of various public health crises.
