1. Introduction

The open access Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Analyses (JETA) [1,2] was launched in 2023 and focuses on multidisciplinary analytical methods and their applications across science and engineering, with a strong emphasis on technology-enabled experimentation, measurement, and data analysis.
Since 2023, submissions to the journal have grown significantly. This editorial is to announce that we are taking steps to refine the journal’s identity, title, and scope in order to be more quickly and easily identified as a premier outlet covering advanced methods in science, engineering, and technology. This should increase readership within our desired audience and decrease out of scope submissions to the journal. Currently JETA is covered by 6 bibliographic databases and archives (as of 26 January 2026; see https://www.mdpi.com/journal/jeta/indexing). Content clarity in our title should also enable journal to be further indexed in appropriate databases.
For the reasons mentioned above, we are adding a subtitle to JETA. The new full title will be Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Analyses—Advanced Methods for Science, Engineering, and Technology. While the journal can still be abbreviated to JETA, this subtitle will better reflect the journal’s scope and capture the fast-evolving field of methodological research.
A concise summary of the main changes introduced in the updated Aims and Scope is provided in Table 1.

2. Updated Definition

Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Analyses—Advanced Methods for Science, Engineering, and Technology is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal published quarterly online by MDPI, and is dedicated to the methods and applications of experimental and theoretical analysis across science and engineering.

3. Updated Aims

The Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Analyses—Advanced Methods for Science, Engineering, and Technology (JETA) (ISSN 2813-4648) is focused on multidisciplinary analytical methods and their applications across science and engineering, with a strong emphasis on technology-enabled experimentation, measurement, and data analysis. JETA publishes research articles, reviews, communications, and technical notes, though other article types are also considered.
JETA is dedicated to publishing research on analytical methods and their applications, covering both experimental and theoretical approaches, including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Functional measurements (e.g., electrical, mechanical, thermal, electrochemical, magnetic, transport, etc.) aimed at quantifying device/material performance and physical response;
  • Multi-technique and multi-scale characterization methods (from microscopy to spectroscopy techniques), including correlative workflows and quantitative metrology across length and time scales;
  • Modeling, including physics-based, multiscale, and multiphysics approaches, as well as digital twins and simulations supporting experiment design, interpretation, and validation;
  • Data analysis, including uncertainty quantification, statistical inference, signal/image processing, inverse methods, automation, and AI/ML-assisted pipelines for extracting robust, reproducible metrics from complex datasets.
Full experimental details must be provided so that results can be reproduced. There is no maximum length limit for submitted manuscripts. Large electronic files, software, movies, etc., that cannot be published in the main text can be posted as supplementary material.
JETA also encourages the submission of papers that integrate AI-driven approaches into computational methods, theoretical analysis, imaging, and experimental data analysis, provided they deliver clear methodological advances and/or robust, evidence-based insights within the journal’s scope and in relation to the topics listed below.

4. Updated Scope

We welcome papers addressing multidisciplinary analyses, including modeling, measurement, data interpretation, methodological developments, and artificial intelligence and machine learning, applied—but not limited to—the following areas in science, engineering, and technology:
  • Bioengineering and Biotechnology;
  • Materials Science and Engineering;
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Technology;
  • Civil and Mechanical Engineering and Technology;
  • Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Environmental Science;
  • Food Science and Engineering;
  • Engineering optimization and optimal design.
Cross-cutting topics (all areas)
AI/ML for modeling, imaging, spectroscopy/microscopy analytics, inverse problems, automated/accelerated experimentation, and data-driven discovery—when accompanied by appropriate benchmarking, interpretability/robustness analyses, and clear methodological disclosure.

5. Future Prospects

This update will allow JETA to more accurately represent its science and engineering focus. This journal will continue to provide a forum for scientists, academicians, and technologists around the world to promote, share, and discuss contributions delivering crucial methodological advances and quantitative insights, strengthening our understanding of the relationship between structures, properties, functions, and applications across disciplines, and bridging science and engineering through methods and analyses.
This update stands as an open invitation to the global research community. We encourage you to contribute relevant work to JETA that meets the standards of rigor, transparency, and reproducibility, whether you are developing new measurement protocols, advanced correlative workflows, modeling and simulation frameworks, or robust data-analysis pipelines (including AI-enabled approaches).
