Five different organs, namely the bone marrow, spleen, thymus, lymph nodes, and a network of lymphatic vessels, constitute “lymphatics”. The lymphatic system governs fluid homeostasis and is part of our immune system that is responsible for the production, storage, and transport of white blood cells. Consisting of a vast network of vessels, tissues, and organs, the lymphatic system is involved in various system-wide processes, activation during infections, inflammatory diseases, and cancer. Previously, a lot of research has focused on the circulatory system and component of blood cells; however, more and more discoveries are elucidating the importance of lymphatic system in infectious diseases and cancer.
To emphasize the importance of research on the lymphatic system, MDPI is pleased to announce the launch of Lymphatics (ISSN 2813-3307) [1], an international open access journal that provides an advanced platform for basic and clinical studies related to lymphology and related disorders, their biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, and physiology, with a special emphasis on translational research and therapeutics. Key areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Lymphatic system and lymph nodes;
- Cancers associated with lymphoblasts and lymphocytes—lymphoma; acute lymphoblastic leukemia; chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and other blood borne cancers;
- Cancer progression and dissemination through lymphatics—metastasis;
- Lymphocytes as microenvironment;
- The use of genetically engineered lymphocytes as drugs;
- Lymphatic vessels and lymph, the clear fluid;
- The biology and development of lymphocytes;
- Lymphoid tissues;
- Lymphatics and inflammation;
- The role of lymphocytes and lymphatic system in fighting infection.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to all members of the Editorial Board and invite scholars within the field of lymphology to join us as we develop this promising new journal. We hope that you will enjoy publishing with us and reading publications in this unique journal.
