Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear Author,

the work is good but thare are point not claire. In the Method, for me, is not clearly explained used a preliminary feasibility study for extraction of simple or the choise was for convenience. In the text I suppose that the rappresentation and stratification of the simple has occured randomply and not with specific statistic method. The bais declarated are fragmented and not clearly argued; I suggest a specific paragraph. The citations contain grey materials and not always updated.

Best Regards

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The authors describe a study of the impact of parents-children relationship on the alcohol consumption behaviour of the children.

The study is clearly described and justified. The introduction provides a comprehensive background that facilitates the reading of the paper and interpretation of the findings.

The interpretation of data is well justified and limitations to the study are included in the discussion.

The discussion could be strengthened if the authors addressed or clarified these additional points:

1)        The level and frequency of inebriation is not particularly well described. Could it be that additional information could be obtained if the subjects  were stratified among e.g. children with high/medium/low frequency of inebriation? (Or do the authors think this analysis is inherent in their methodology)

2)        It is not totally clear the relationship between parents’ knowledge of children whereabout and their knowledge of the children level of inebriation. Could parents know where the children are but not know if they are drinking?

3)        During the study was it always the same parent that was responding to the questionnaire? Is there any correlation between relationships between mother/daughter , mother/son, father /daughter, father/son?

4)        To what extent did the children know about the study, and the questions that the parents were asked? Could that have influenced the study and could the children in the same school influence each other as they knew about the study? Would it have been possible to have   control group that were interviewed only at one time point.

5)        The full set of questions of the questionnaire should be included in an appendix

A few other minor points

-              Line 10  Acronym SES needs to be explained

-              Line 120 Acronym SES needs to be explained here rather than in line 130

-              Line 143 It is not clear what   "parent-child closeness was measured at 45" means.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear authors,

I hope this message finds you well. I would like to express my gratitude for the opportunity to review your manuscript entitled "Interplay between parental knowledge and adolescent inebriation, and their links to parent-child relationships over time". The effort and dedication you have invested in this work is evident, and I am pleased to offer constructive comments to further enrich it.

Below are a number of recommendations that, in my opinion, could enhance the quality and clarity of the content:

- Abstract: I suggest that you consider adding relevant information about the participants in the abstract, providing a more complete picture of the study from the outset.

- Study objective and research questions: It would be beneficial to the reader if you clearly state the main objective of the study at the beginning, followed by the research questions and complemented by the hypotheses based on scientific evidence. In short, indicate the main objective of the study and then state the research questions and complete it with the hypotheses (what is expected to be obtained based on the scientific evidence).

- Materials and Methods" section: I recommend reorganizing this section. First, present the subsection on participants and then present the instruments used. Regarding the section on participants, I suggest a clearer organization detailing the number of parents and adolescent participants, as well as the distribution between fathers and mothers, and between adolescent girls and boys.

- Instruments: I suggest that you dedicate an individual paragraph to each of the instruments used. This will allow a clearer and more detailed understanding of each tool, as their presentation together can be confusing.

- Discussion: In this section, you could include whether the initial hypotheses (in relation to what was suggested to improve the research questions) were fulfilled or not, thus providing a more complete analysis of the results obtained.

- Conclusions: To enrich the conclusions, you might consider adding future lines of research that may arise from the findings of this study.

I thank you again for the opportunity to review your work and remain at your disposal for any further consultation or to discuss these points further. Your contribution is valuable and I am sure that these suggestions could further strengthen the quality of your research.

Best regards and congratulations on your work.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Thank you very much for the opportunity to read a very interesting article regarding parental knowledge of their adolescents' whereabouts and adolescent inebriation! I have just a few brief comments for the authors:

- How come you did not experiment with age as a moderating variable in the "knowledge - inebriation" relationship?

- Do you perhaps have any concrete ideas for further research in this area? I'm also thinking about e.g. the link with parenting styles.
