Title: Bergamot oil: botany, production, pharmacology
Authors: Marco Valussi, Davide Donelli, Fabio Firenzuoli, Michele Antonelli
In the present review article, bergamot, a Citrus plant known particularly for the production of essential oil, is reviewed for its taxonomy and production methods employed in the industry, the chemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology of its essential oil. It provides helpful information for the production and market use of bergamot essential oil (BEO), and thus it is recommended to be published as an Entry in Encyclopedia after the authors revise the manuscript following the suggestions shown below.
- The authors should discuss the previous reviews in the field of BEO extraction methods, chemistry, and pharmacology and present the reason for publication of this review. Two references should be referred for this purpose (Jin et al. Research on bergamot essential oil and its related product development. Zhongcaoyao 2016, 47, 857–861 and Yang et al. Research progress of extraction methods and pharmacological effects of bergamot essential oil. Shipin Anquan Zhiliang Jiance Xuebao 2013, 4, 1347–1352).
- Include the figure numbers in Figures 6–8.
- Check the journal names for refs. 17, 23, 37, 55, and 57 (abbs.?).

- The authors are advised to move the production section (section 2) to later stages in the review, after chemistry and quality aspects were discussed.
- The text should be revised for uniformity of capitalization of the fruit name. A small cap letter or a cap letter should be used constantly throughout the manuscript for fruit names such as "mandarins and Pomelos".
- In the definition section: "is the result of" should be changed to "is produced by".
- Introduction, in the second paragraph "deliciousness" is not a conventional word and should be replaced.
- In the introduction " but also in the Jewish culture" should be changed to "and also in the Jewish culture"
- In section 1.1. "Bergamot. This is a hybrid obtained from the above-mentioned hybrids by crossbreeding with their ancestors or with other hybrids.". What do you mean by "above-mentioned hybrids" ? this is not clear and should be specified.
- In section 1.2 what do you mean by precious? "precious essential oil".
- In section 1.2. including in the section title the word 'peculiarity' appears. This is not the correct term. ?It should be replaced with 'characteristic" or "characteristics"
- Section 1.5 " 1.5 Distribution and cultivation of Bergamot in Calabria". This section should be focused on distribution and cultivation in the world, no only in calabria. It is OK to point out that most cultivation in the world is in Calabria and to include the text which now appears in the paragraph, but the section should be written with a world-wide distribution and cultivation view.
- Section 2 should be termed " Production methods of Bargamot EO"
- Section 2.3 the title of this sub-section should be improved in terms of the English language " Oil extracted after the juice".
- Section " 2.4 Oil extracted before the juice " the title of this sub-section should be improved in terms of the English language
- Section 2.6 the title of the sub-section should be changed. Possibly to something like this: " Low quality EO products "

The revision of the review has been improved, and the authors should check the cite of Figures 6–8 (Figure 8 seems numbered wrongly with Figure 7) in the text (they seem missing) and journal names in Refs. 17, 23, and 37 before it is published in Encyclopedia.
