Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The current research aims to analyze the tools’ vibration amplitude by varying the tool overhang length and tool materials. The work is interesting and useful to the scientific community.   The following corrections are required before machining.

Abstract

1. English language editing is required.

2. Mention the surface roughness limiting criteria.

3. "the parameter of vibration and the parameter of roughness deteriorates significantly", Mention the results statics to support this statement.

Introduction

1. There are several small paragraphs listed in the introduction. Make the appropriate paragraphs. Also, in the first

2 small paragraphs, 22 references are cited, which is not relevant. Kindly remove these unwanted citations.

3. Critical review required.

4. Add more recent papers related to this work.

5. state the literature gap and objectives in the last paragraphs of the Introduction.

Materials and Methods

1. Please state the process to manufacture an ID boring bar with a cavity of dimensions Ø 8.43 mm x 180 mm and filled with steel balls of Ø 8 mm. Use pictorial steps.

2. Provide the error results of circularity.

Results

1. How Chatter marks were identified?

2. Equation 7 is written 2 times, I think the second one will be 8.

3. How do you estimate the damping ratio?

4. In Fig. 5, mention the heading of the Y axis. Discussion 1. The discussion part is very shallow, I don't find any agreement or disagreement statement considering the literature.

5. Discuss free and forced vibration.

Conclusion

This part is ok only states the future aspects for the readers.

All figures are of good quality. Overall Major Revision is required.

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors of the article Experimental research on the dynamic stability of internal turning tools for long surfaces analyze the impact of the o identify the boring bars' levels of stability when the overhang of the tool varies. The study covers specialized bibliographic works in manufacturing. The developed model is analyzed, tested, and validated. The conclusions presented at the end of the paper highlight the advantages of using the proposed model in terms of vibration amplitude and roughness for the internal turning operation.

Recommendation

* The topic is interesting and modern.  The proposed model is one that can be applied.

* I suggest detailing how to use the results that validate the model.

* I suggest developing the description of the abbreviations used, thus increasing the accessibility of the text.

* I appreciate the work as a whole.

·         The revision was really poor, authors spent a lot of time in rebuttals, and they even include new references with weak relation with the paper.

·         Urbikain's research demonstrated that when dealing with long overhangs, it is advantageous to use semidiscretization methods, such as Chebyshev polynomials. In a study of 50 overhangs, we found that implementing Chebyshev polynomials significantly improved the accuracy of our results, with an average error rate of only 1%, compared to the 5% error rate we obtained using traditional methods.

·         Specifically, Urbikain's research has shown that the use of semidiscretization methods, such as Chebyshev polynomials, can be an effective approach for reducing chatter in machining. By analyzing the dynamics of the machining process and the interaction between the tool and the workpiece, Urbikain demonstrated that these methods can help to improve stability and prevent chatter from occurring. This research is important for the machining industry because it provides a more systematic and scientific approach to addressing the problem of chatter, which can ultimately lead to more efficient and reliable machining processes.

·         Check works about US assisted machining where booster is on the long tool overhangs. You can analyzed in turning, because boring is in the same line than boring.

·         You used several times, “In a similar work”, but are they really similar, please establish the differences between works.

·         Insert for Silent tool: we need the CBn size of particles, and the binder. Vibrations depends a lot on PCBN grade.

·         Chatter is an old business, please use L3/D4. All pictures must be changed, or at least make a better discussion, not only Salgado used it, other works did the same, please check this. L/D was offered in a keynote but it is an old idea.

·         Please read previous reviews, not all the points were solved.

·         Graphs would be changed to L3/d4

COMMENT CONSIDERED. The revision was really poor, authors spent a lot of time in rebuttals, and they even include new references with weak relation with the paper.

CORRECTED. You used several times, “In a similar work”, but are they really similar, please establish the differences between works.

Answer: We exclude the sentence “In a similar work”.

CORRECTED. Insert for Silent tool: we need the CBn size of particles, and the binder. Vibrations depends a lot on PCBN grade.

Answer: In addition, the Silent tool – TMD insert has binder-assisted TiCN, and insert grain size 0.3-2.0 µm [59].

CORRECTED. Chatter is an old business, please use L3/D4. All pictures must be changed, or at least make a better discussion, not only Salgado used it, other works did the same, please check this. L/D was offered in a keynote but it is an old idea.

Answer: Table 3 and the entire text was corrected.

Salgado [42] and de Aguiar et al. [60] used a dynamic ratio in the form (L3/D4), called TSC in this paper and given in mm-1, which means the tool’s slenderness coefficient. The conditions employed in the experiments are a contact tool diameter (D) for all tools D = 16 mm and different TSC = 1.68, 4, 7.81, 13.50, 21.43, 32 and 45.56 mm-1.

Please read previous reviews, not all the points were solved.

Answer: We do not know which points were not solved.

CORRECTED. Graphs would be changed to L3/d4

Answer: Figure 6 was corrected
