Impact of Risk Factors on the Evolution of Severe Acute Pancreatitis
Abstract
:Introduction
Materials and Methods
- 1)
- Abdominal pain
- 2)
- Serum amylase and/or lipase greater than three times the upper normal limit
- 3)
- Characteristic findings on abdominal cross-sectional imaging [12]

Conclusions
Highlights
- ✓
- In severe acute pancreatitis, older patients have an increased risk for death, thus they should be carefully treated and monitored in intensive care units.
- ✓
- Binary logistic regression found that a higher Charlson Comorbidity Index and he presence of cardiac complications increased risk of fatal outcome in patients aged over 65 with severe acute pancreatitis.
