We are pleased to announce that, beginning with Volume 15, Issue 4 (2025), GERMS (ISSN: 2248-2997) will now be published by MDPI. This transition represents both a celebration of the journal’s remarkable journey since its conception and the beginning of a new chapter that promises to expand the journal’s reach and impact in the field of infectious diseases.
Since its initial launch in 2011, GERMS has grown into the respected international OA peer-reviewed journal that it is today. It is devoted to advancing knowledge of infectious diseases in humans. Under the dedicated leadership of its founding Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Adrian Streinu-Cercel (2011–2025), and with Prof. Dr. Oana Săndulescu as Executive Editor, the journal has cultivated a strong reputation for scientific rigor, editorial integrity, and clinical relevance. In 2025, we are happy to see Prof. Dr. Oana Săndulescu assuming the role of Editor-in-Chief in solitaire [1].
Over the past 14 years, GERMS has achieved important milestones that reflect both its quality and growing recognition in the field. In 2013, starting from Volume 1, GERMS was indexed in PubMed central and Scopus. The following year, it received its first Citescore of 1.4 (2013) and has steadily grown until achieving its current Citescore of 3.6 (2024). More recently, in 2020, starting with Volume 8, the journal was indexed in the Emerging Source Citation Index (ESCI) and it received its first impact factor in 2023 [1].
These accomplishments indicate the journal’s role in publishing high-quality papers in the field of infectious diseases.
As GERMS joins MDPI, we look forward to continuing to build upon this strong foundation. We are committed to supporting the editorial team and contributors in fostering their scientific exchange and expanding the journal’s influence in both academic and clinical communities worldwide.
We warmly welcome the editors, authors, reviewers, and readers of GERMS to the MDPI platform.
