Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

I suggest that the authors include more recent references.

If we review the references list, we can find some very interesting statistics that from my point of view can provide important information about the quality of the manuscript.

1.- The total of the cited references  are 62, of which only 23 are within a range between 5 years that have been published, they represents only 37.0% of the total, and a large number of them fall into the category from year 2016 ( 5), almost at the limit considering the scientific progress in the area. For this reason I highly recommend upgrading with more recent references.

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors investigated nanoemulsion containing orange essential oil and xoconostle (Opuntia oligacantha C.F. Först) as an additive to the coating to extend the shelf life of tomatoes.

In my opinion, the article was prepared correctly and all research elements were planned and described in the materials and methods part. The obtained results were explained and discussed with other works.

I believe that the purpose of the work should be rephrased. The novelty of this work should be provided in the aim of the work, due to many other papers in which coatings with biologically active compounds were also tested.

Moreover, Figure 4 and its caption should be improved. Please indicate more precisely which photos apply to which conditions (type of coating and the day of analysis).

Minor suggestions: Line 59 - use subscripts; Line 336 - change the superscripts to subscripts.
