Interdisciplinary Knowledge Flow in International Higher Education Research: Characteristics and Mechanisms
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsPlease write the extended form of HER when using it for the first time.
How we arrived at Darcy's law is not understood.
It needs to be substantiated a bit more.
In the discussion, the potential for applied contributions of the work should be more clearly stated.
The details of the proposal to participate in the "Open Science" movement could be discussed further.
Author Response
Comments 1: Please write the extended form of HER when using it for the first time.
Response 1: Thank you for pointing this out. We agree with this comment. Therefore, we have noted in the abstract of the manuscript and in the text where higher education research first appears. It is on page 1, paragraph 1, lines 7, paragraph 2, line 27.
Comments 2: How we arrived at Darcy's law is not understood. It needs to be substantiated a bit more.
Response 2: Thank you for pointing this out. We agree with this comment. Therefore, we have increased the literature on knowledge flow, discussed the flow of knowledge fluid from the structure, characteristics and influencing factors, and concluded that knowledge flow is intrinsically similar to the flow of fluid in Darcy's law. In addition, we further explain Darcy's law and pay more attention to the influence of various factors on the flow. The specific location is in the manuscript on page 3, paragraph 1-3, lines 76-104.
Comments 3: In the discussion, the potential for applied contributions of the work should be more clearly stated.
Response 3: Thank you for pointing this out. We agree with this comment. Therefore, in the discussion of this paper, we made a preliminary review of the research results, and then summarized the contribution of this research from the level of higher education management organization and higher education researchers. It is located on page 13, paragraph 1-2, lines 323-339.
Comments 4: The details of the proposal to participate in the "Open Science" movement could be discussed further.
Response 4: Thank you for pointing this out. We agree with this comment. Therefore, we expand the practice of the open science movement in the Conclusion and Implications of this paper, and put forward some practical suggestions on how to carry out the open science movement in higher education based on the research conclusions. The location is on page 17, paragraph 2, lines 501-511.

Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsMy general views for the study are as follows;
1- First of all, the contribution rates of the authors in the introduction section should be increased.
2- Although Figure 1 is well prepared, Figure 2 and Figure 3 cannot be understood.
3- 3.2. The Research Tools and Measurement Methods section is quite short and should be expanded a little more.
4- Figure 5 is also incomprehensible, it should be rearranged and enlarged in terms of size.
5- Table 1 and Table 2 should be rearranged in terms of shape, especially the table rows should be rearranged to be aligned to the left.
6- Figure 6 and Figure 7 should be enlarged a little more, the reader is having difficulty.
7- 6. The Conclusion and Implications section is quite short and the author's contribution is quite low, it would be good to increase and expand the author's contributions.
Author Response
Comments 1: First of all. the contribution rates of the authors in the introduction section should be increased
Response 1: Thank you for pointing this out. We agree with this comment. Therefore, in the introduction section, we have added the contribution of this study from the aspects of theoretical significance and practical value. The location is on page 2 of the manuscript, paragraph 3, lines 63-74.
Comments 2: Although Figure 1 is well prepared, Figure 2 and Figure 3 cannot be understood
Response 2: Thank you for pointing this out. We agree with this comment. Therefore, we have refined the headings in Figures 2 and 3. The location is on page 6 of the manuscript, lines 176-178.
Comments 3: 3.2. The Research Tools and Measurement Methods section is quite short and should be expanded a little more.
Response 3: Thank you for pointing this out. We agree with this comment. Therefore, in combination with the analysis framework, we extend the application form of the research method to the subsequent research results. The location is on page 5 of the manuscript, second paragraph, lines 157-167.
Comments 4: Figure 5 is also incomprehensible, it should be rearranged and enlarged in terms of size.
Response 4: Thank you for pointing this out. We agree with this comment. Therefore, we have refined the comment in Figure 5 and changed its dimensions. The location is on page 9 of the manuscript, lines 274-275.
Comments 5: Table 1 and Table 2 should be rearranged in terms of shape, especially the table rows shouldbe rearranged to be alianed to the left.
Response 5: Thank you for pointing this out. We agree with this comment. Therefore, we have improved Table 1 and Table 2. The location is on page 10 of the manuscript, lines 276-277, 294-295.
Comments 6: Figure 6 and Figure 7 should be enlarged a litle more, the reader is having dificulty.
Response 6: Thank you for pointing this out. We agree with this comment. Since the content in Figure 6 and Figure 7 overlaps with Table 2 and Table 3 and is difficult to read, we will Therefore delete Figure 6 and Figure 7 after consideration.
Comments 7: 6. The Conclusion and lmplications section is quite short and the author's contribution is quitelow, it would be good to increase and expand the author's contributions.
Response 7: Thank you for pointing this out. We agree with this comment. First of all, considering the coherence of the structure of the paper, we conducted a preliminary review of the research results in the discussion section of the paper, and then summarized the potential practical contributions of this study from the level of higher education management organization and higher education researchers. The specific location is in the manuscript page 13, paragraphs 1-2, lines 323-339. Secondly, in the Conclusion and Implications of the paper, we put forward reasonable suggestions for higher education researchers to make use of the interdisciplinary knowledge flow rule of higher education research, highlighting the practical value of the research. The location is on page 17 of the manuscript, paragraph 2, lines 501-511.

Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsIn this bibliometric research study the authors investigated the
interdisciplinary knowledge flow in worldwide higher education
research (HER). They utilized the Henry Darcy approach, a model
of fluid mechanics, as an analogous scheme of knowledge flow.
The superposition of knowledge flow as indicated by keywords in
published research papers was used to determine the knowledge
absorption and diffusion in higher education research. Thus,
the authors quantified the knowledge absorption intensity
in higher education research.
