Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Thank you for allowing me this chance.

I have some comments that must be considered in the revised version.

-------------------------------------

1) I cannot see any numerical values in both (Abstract) and (Conclusion) for the main findings!

2) I do not see any novelty in this paper. I can consider it as a survey paper.

3) It needs a paragraph for paper organization (at the end of "Introduction").

4) If you see it is a new method (or methods), how can you evaluate your suggestion(s)? The paper has NO results and NO graphs!

Comments on the Quality of English Language

Fairly accepted.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear Authors,

I have read the article entitled „Research progress of reinforced modification of fast-growing wood".

Based on the wood reinforcement mechanism, several mature wood reinforcement modification techniques are briefly introduced in this paper.

The subject falls within the scope of the Journal. The title and abstract reflect the content. The introduction initiates the reader on the subject. The manuscript has well-prepared content. All figures are mentioned in the text. Comments and comparisons with other works in the field give a better understanding of the subject. A well-selected list of references was used.

The paper can be published in its current form after some corrections. I have a few short observations listed below.

Page 1 line 22-characteristics, 23 requirements, 27 conservation

Page 1 lines 25-31: please, split the text

Page 1 lines 43-45: please, rephrase the text

Page 2 line 52 -microcapillary, 54 theoretical, 57 performance

Page 3 line 111 -hydrothermal, 116 requirements

Page 3 lines 118-122: please rephrase

Page 5 line 180-polymer, 200, 208, 203, 2014 contact angle, use…º

Page 6 line 227-expand, 225-229 split the text

Page 6 line 239-laminated, 254 researchers

Page 7 line 276-Results

Page 7 lines 276-280; please, split the text, 291 continue, 292 reasonable, 290-295 split the text, 296 enhancement

Page 8 lines 301-306: please, split the text and add the last sentence.

I hope my revision was of help.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

I have a few short observations: some paragraphs are too long, for a better understanding of the text I suggest splitting or rephrasing them.

Author Response

Dear reviewer:

Thank you for reviewing this manuscript and for your valuable comments and suggestions.

We have corrected the misspellings, improper hyphens, incorrect punctuation and name formatting that you have pointed out. Only in line 429, we find the original text and find that the expression is consistent with the original text, so it remains unchanged.

For the 27 line, we find relevant country reports and add country names in the text.

The description of fast-growing forest is more accurately rewritten in line 33.

The original intention of line 35-36 is to express each growth stage and the time that can be harvested, and one is deleted to avoid misunderstanding.

Line 41-43 are increasingly concerned about some policy news information in addition to the new reference 1, which is not cited in this paper.

The report of line 66-68 is presented in the following line 260-281 with references 37, 54 and 55 as examples.

Line 77 new introduction to reference 7.

99 line 25 and 26 are examples.

The expression of excessive ammonia has been deleted in line 113.

Add the limiting oxygen index to line 153 to account for LOI.

Line 217-222 usually use sol-gel method to interact inorganic particles with wood.

Line 270-271 were rewritten.

The current documents 7 and 34 do not have doi numbers, and other documents have added doi numbers in http format.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The increasing demand for sustainable and high-performance materials has propelled the research progress of reinforced modification in fast-growing wood, offering a promising avenue for enhancing the mechanical and structural properties of these renewable resources.

The scientific content of the text is of interest. A review of the fresh scientific literature was conducted. However, there is some negligence in the design of the manuscript: there are hyphens in words, semicolons instead of dots, and so on. Some phrases should be reworded to improve clarity.

Please find below a number of comments.

Line 17. Fast-growing

Line 27. Please provide examples of "many countries"

Line 28. ...strict restrictions...

Line 33. Please explain the term fast-growing woods. What species? Any peculiarities of these woods?

Line 35-36. Isn't growth cycle and growth years by and large the same in the context of this sentence?

Lines 39-40. The sentience has no subject.

Lines 41-43. Please provide some references supporting "more and more attention".

Line 64. Standardization of standards?

Lines 66-68. The references for "more and more reported experiments" is critically lacked.

Line 77. use subscript for TiO2

Line 77. Provide the references

Lines 82. At present,.... Line 84. At present....

Line 99. Please provide several examples of organic/inorganic modifiers

Line 113. Isn't there too many ammonia?

Lines 122, 126 and further. Do not write the names in caps.

Line 142. "...the wood turned bright..." After delignification it is not wood anymore.

Line 153. Please, do not use abbreviations without decryption.

Lines 170, 250. Please clarify what drugs are the authors writing about? Reagents? Chemicals?

Line 201, 208. 150 degrees?

Lines 217-222. Please provide what methods are used to apply inorganic nanoparticles to the wood.

Lines 270-271. Please clarify how the lignin unit (whatever it means) was impregnated by IL separately from cellulose and hemicelluloses? I recommend paraphrasing of this sentence.

Line 276. Results of what?

Line 306-307. The sentence does not contain a subject.

Line 429. the space is missed in "pretreatmenton"

Provide doi for the references.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

English needs to be improved. There are grammatical and punctuation errors in the text. Some phrases are difficult to understand due to heavy structures.

We rewrote the abstract and the section "Wood Surface Modification" to be more consistent with the journal. Some of the most widely used modifications in industry are also pointed out in the abstract.

The conclusions of lines 14-15 are presented in the following lines 260-281 with references 37, 54 and 55 as examples.

Improper conjunctions were found and deleted throughout the text.

Add content to the introduction to better describe plantation wood.

Line 70 Modified lignin writing.

Adopt normative densification.

All changes to the manuscript are shown in red. Thank you again for your positive comments and valuable suggestions on the quality of our manuscripts.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Review of the article: Research progress of reinforced modification of fast-growing wood

The topic of this research and output might be useful much more for Forests readers than the Coatings readers. The methods described concern the modification of wood throughout its entire volume. Part of this work is devoted to modifying the wood surface. Methods regarding wood surfaces should be more emphasized to make this article dedicated to Coatings readers.

The conducted work is worth to publish, however the text needs to be corrected. Individual parts of the article indicated in the review should be clarified. The methods are discussed too briefly. The topic should be presented in more detail. A big advantage is the compilation of data, e.g. regarding modification parameters used by various researchers within a given method.

Abstract

The abstract is very general. Please indicate how many articles were analyzed. The most commonly used methods should be listed. It can be mentioned whether some of the methods are used industrially.

Lines 14 – 15: In the process of combining various modification techniques to strengthen wood, the impregnation modification as pretreatment combined with densification and hot pressing is introduced.

§  On what basis was this conclusion made?

Introduction

Line 23: Why are some words hyphenated, e.g. re-quirements?

Lines 20 – 45: Only one article was mentioned in the Introduction. There are many articles talking about the low strength and durability of plantation wood. This scope of analysis should be expanded and the characteristics of plantation wood should be precisely described.

Wood Impregnation Modification

Line 70: …hemicellulose…

§  Should be …hemicelluloses…

It is a heterogeneous group of polysaccharides and their derivatives

Compaction

The proper term is densification, or you should use compression.
