Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The review paper entitled "Multi-Omics and Genome Editing studies on Plant Cell Wall to improve Biomass Quality" is of particular importance. The authors have already revealed some interesting findings which are not highlighted in earlier studies. It’ s well written and merit to be published after addressing some comments.

The review in the current form is too long, and under this form, it is quite difficult to follow the study. Therefore, I suggest that the paper should be shortened in some parts. Some other minor comments are also listed below.

1) Line 36: Please add "the" before "source" 2) line 40: please change "from" into "by" 3) line 85: Please add comma after "structure." 4) Line 93: Please remove "the" before biosynthesis

5) Line 99: Please replace "to" by "with"

6) line 114; Please add comma after "which and in our opinion" 7) Line 272-572: "Integrated Omics Approaches to Study Plant Cell Walls" this section is too long; please be more specific and avoid extra information

8) Line 363: Please add comma after "target"

9) Line 212: Please add "the" before " southern "

10) Line 169:  Please add some more information

11) Line 187: A schematic diagram of Main gene involved in cell walls development is appreciating.

12) Line 395-397, 440; The data should be updated; add some recent studies.

13) line 201: Please add " were " before " evaluated"

14) Line 449: Table 5  title needs to elaborate well; please revise.

15) line 266:  Please replace as a result by "due"

16) Line 762-764: Please rewrite it's not clear

17) Too many references. Please check it.

Reviewer 2 Report

1.     In the manuscript entitled “Multi-Omics and Genome Editing studies on Plant Cell Wall to improve Biomass Quality,” the authors conducted integrative analyses to uncover molecular mechanisms underlying the germination restoration process in wild banana pollen. However, some shortcomings should be resolved before recommending this article for publication.

2.     First, authors must ensure the referred article in the text is precise. For example, referring to Fierobe et al. 2012, WGCNA is widely used to identify highly correlated genes; thus, the statement in Lines 498-504 must be revised. Make sure other information is correctly referred to.

3.     The fourth section needs to be elaborated on omics data integration. There are a lot of important crops that underwent omics data integration that can be discussed as a start.

4.     Table 4 is confusing. Energy crop studies and plant-degrading organism studies for the title are not representing the omics technologies employed.

5.     I would suggest a comprehensive overview of the muti-omics (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics) data integration leading to biomass improvement.

6.     All gene names need to be italicised
